Hey everyone, I'm just curious about the new Generic Lamitcal; I guess it came out only a few months ago and from a lot of what I've googled people have reported weird stuff. I'm sure it's all a bunch of BS but I wanted to get some first-hand experience/input from people on it....

I know many of you take Lamictal(or at least some of you). I've been on it a month now and have just upped my dose 100mg and starting to feel some positive effects from it. I have taken the brand name Lamictal so far; but I know the generic form now exists(Lamitrogine) and I would save some money by switching to it.

I've just read quite a few reports and other first-hand posts people have written where it has either given them weird side effects or that it was less effective; supposedly people think the bioavailability of the generic form is just not quite what it should be. Many people take it for epilepsy/seizures and I've read quite a few alarming posts where people switched from taking brand name Lamictal(who were seizure free for years) and went to the generic Lamitrogine.....and then had seizures again.

All these reports just have me a bit curious about it......and if it's worth the extra cost to keep getting the brand name Lamictal....so basically:

-Do any of you take the generica Lamictal(aka lamitrogene)?

-Have any of you switched over from the brand name to the generic?

Thanks for any feedback. I'm sure I am just being OCD about it and changing to the generic would be perfectly fine......but after googling it and reading about it I came across too many negative posts/reports on it to be completely comfortable with going to the generics. I pick up my script on monday so I can choose to get generics then.....but would like feedback first.

Thanks

Hard to imagine how generic could be less effective than the nothing the brand name does. But I'm happy to hear that another patent bites the dust -- I'm not a fan of big pharma.
Yea, I always love when the generics finally come out and the main company can no longer charge us up the arss for their friggin "unique" meds.

I've taken generic for close to all of the meds I've ever tried.......but this is like the first time I've read that a generic caused problems in people switching over. Maybe it was just the people being seuizure free switching over to the generic and then having seizures that scared me(though I don't suffer from seizures......just take it for anxiety/mood).

Anyone take the generic? COmfort an irrational brother out?
