Forced to live in a cell phone world

We are forced to live in a cell phone world. It's how people keep in touch now, whether you accept it or not. Of course, many don't have cell phones. It holds them back, though. But when you have a cell phone, people can get in touch with you, including your boss and other people you don't want to talk to/be able to get in touch with you. These little pieces of technology expand and destroy our freedoms.

I sort of quit my job today. I was constantly thinking of throwing my phone out into the ocean. Today I walked up to the ocean and thought about it. Just hurl it out into the ocean. My boss has my home phone number, though. So, I finally called him back and explained my situation as best as I could.

The only reason I want a cell phone is for friends and women. Otherwise, cell phones suck. Even for friends they aren't that great of a thing.

This has nothing to do with social anxiety, though. I just do NOT think it's okay for people to get in touch with you whenever. You can turn off your phone, but they know you have a cell phone. They know you may be ignoring them. It doesn't work. You are a slave... to everyone who knows your cell phone number and thinks they you might be ignoring them. This piece of technology is anti your freedom. You are not free if you have a cell phone. The same could even be said about phones in general, and then the internet. F--- this s---. I just want to live out in the woods.

I too dislike the idea of people being able to contact you at all times, it's one reason I no longer have a cell phone or use facebook
Yeah, I hate wanting to be constant contact.. I don't even answer my cell phone half the time, people would blow it up and I just ignore it. I'm not very good at returning calls or checking my voice messages, usually I wait until I have 20 messages then I check, and it'd be a month worth of messages.

Although I thought this weekend, I'd drive to Kentucky somewhere, find some nicely wooded area and roam free for a day or two. Of course I couldn't do it because I gotta come back to the daily grind, bleh.
And you are still living and breathing. Props to you, my Canadian Brotha.

The only person that calls me half the time is either my boss or a particular friend. My friend is obsessed with her ex-boyfriend/my friend, and she has basically been using me to get ahold of him. She got me in trouble by having me give her his girlfriend's number. She also, like my boss, has my landline number. No escape! At a certain point you have to start standing up for yourself and acting in your own interest. I wish I had the balls to go all of the way. I wish I could just say NO.
I don't like being cantactable whenever either. The biggest problem was my work phoning me on my day off to ask if I could come in whenever anyone called in sick. I HATED that so much! But it was fine when I got a new number, I just made sure work didn't get it :)

I don't have much of a problem ignoring people I don't want to speak to. If it's someone who matters to me I'll apologise for missing them, and either make up an excuse or tell the truth - that I was not in a talking mood. I absolutely love text messaging - a way of keeping in touch without that awkward speaking-on-the-phone thing.
hahahaha. That must be annoying.

Oh ****, that reminds me of a story. I got a friend who used to go out with this girl, she was an alcoholic, she was extremely homely to say it politely and would end up doing stupid drunk ****, like falling down stairs and acting really ****ty. Anyway, my other friend ended up bribing her to sleep with him under the context "I have cigarettes, alcohol and a little weed." So the first friend and girlfriend break up, and she ends up stabbing his leg 3 times with a fire poker over an argument. Fast forward months later, the 2nd friend has a sudden desire to **** her again, asking each one of us for a ride for him to **** her. Of course none of us would, that's what good friends are for. He ends up making his way to **** her again, and he ends up giving her the first friends new cell number to her. Isn't that so hilariously messed up?
I intentionally avoided getting a cell phone until *after* I got done working for a crazy professor. No way did I want her contacting me at all times.

Now, I don't know what I'd do without it. I actually have two - one for each country.

Have a nice day,
Kelly :)
I have a cell phone, but no one calls me. It makes me feel pathetic around real people.
I am not good at lying. I am not a comfortable liar. It doesn't help when it comes to ignoring calls, and especially when you have done a considerable amount of lying yourself.
I don't have one, no one to call or to call me, and I rarely leave home anyway.

I couldn't agree more. Excellent post!
I don't have a cell phone and never have. People in rural India will all have cell phones before I do most likely.
i have became a member of the cell phone world in 2000 since i moved out to California area, since I was living with my grandma she would have to get a hold of me when she needed help.

Well I'm not actively social or doing anything in my life currently so it works out now but in the future I'm sure I'll succumb to one again. I really do hate it though because when you don't answer then people leave those "why do you have a phone messages?". Likewise if you're actively social & don't have one then people are always saying "you need a phone". I think in the future I'll use a "pay as you go" phone(if I get one) & milk the low minutes excuse for a while, haha
i like cell phone tech. people know that i wont answer when they call so i just get texts that i always answer. i think the txt feature is the best thing to come out. if someone calls just let them leave a message. if its important they'll leave one. eventually they'll get the idea that your one of the people that dont answer the phone

in 2004 i worked with someone who went to new delhi for a few months (job related). she said that people there use cell phones more than americans. course new delhi isnt rural india but i was still surprised that a third world nation would use cell phones more than a developed nation. samething with the phillipines i hear

cell phones are just great :)
I think texting costs me money, as in I'm not signed up for it or something. I don't want to pay for anything. I actually kind of dislike texting, especially when it comes to drama.
The only reason I have a cell phone is for emergency purposes when driving. Otherwise I have no use for it. The only person that calls me is my brother once every couple weeks. And I don't text. I've sent maybe 5-10 text messages in my entire life.
My goal is to be the last person on the planet without a cell phone.
