I too dislike the idea of people being able to contact you at all times, it's one reason I no longer have a cell phone or use facebook
The only person that calls me half the time is either my boss or a particular friend. My friend is obsessed with her ex-boyfriend/my friend, and she has basically been using me to get ahold of him. She got me in trouble by having me give her his girlfriend's number. She also, like my boss, has my landline number. No escape! At a certain point you have to start standing up for yourself and acting in your own interest. I wish I had the balls to go all of the way. I wish I could just say NO.Yeah, I hate wanting to be constant contact.. I don't even answer my cell phone half the time, people would blow it up and I just ignore it. I'm not very good at returning calls or checking my voice messages, usually I wait until I have 20 messages then I check, and it'd be a month worth of messages.
Although I thought this weekend, I'd drive to Kentucky somewhere, find some nicely wooded area and roam free for a day or two. Of course I couldn't do it because I gotta come back to the daily grind, bleh.
I couldn't agree more. Excellent post! This piece of technology is anti your freedom. You are not free if you have a cell phone. The same could even be said about phones in general, and then the internet. F--- this s---. I just want to live out in the woods.
Well I'm not actively social or doing anything in my life currently so it works out now but in the future I'm sure I'll succumb to one again. I really do hate it though because when you don't answer then people leave those "why do you have a phone messages?". Likewise if you're actively social & don't have one then people are always saying "you need a phone". I think in the future I'll use a "pay as you go" phone(if I get one) & milk the low minutes excuse for a while, hahaAnd you are still living and breathing. Props to you, my Canadian Brotha.
in 2004 i worked with someone who went to new delhi for a few months (job related). she said that people there use cell phones more than americans. course new delhi isnt rural india but i was still surprised that a third world nation would use cell phones more than a developed nation. samething with the phillipines i hearI don't have a cell phone and never have. People in rural India will all have cell phones before I do most likely.
