I decided to reactivate my OkCupid account, but I've been reluctant to send messages to women or even search for women. The last time I tried, I was pretty disappointed. I didn't get a single date, and I got very few responses. I have one friend who had success with it, but it was SHE who first contacted her now boyfriend. So I'm wondering whether successful relationships that begin online are first initiated by men or women. To those of you who have had any success with online dating sites (by any success I mean anything from 2 dates to marriage), who sent the first message/initiated contact?

I am on OkC as well. I had it deactivated for a while myself because I was just so frustrated. I messaged guys first in the past but never received a response, ever. I finally went on a date this year, last week, with someone from OkC. It probably won't go anywhere since that is just what happens with me.

Anyways, I guess people do have luck on dating sites. Just not me, heh.

i just joined okcupid - it looks interesting.

except if you get some weird result on a test you don't get to defend yourself with a comment or anything.

my profile is still pretty terse, so i haven't started messaging anyone yet. hopefully there are some other screwed up people on there. if not, maybe i'll try living anxious. or craigslist.

Just redo the test until you get the result you think is the most attractive. The whole site is fake and I found it very hard to stay on there and message people. Same reason I avoid facebook like the plague.
