I've been in situations where I thought I was literally going to pass out. But once I'm in a situation the feeling fades soon enough. However, I try not to put myself in those situations very often anyway.
I've never fainted just thinking about doing something. But, I know what you're talking about re: anticipatory anxiety. That's usually when I start feeling faint. If I have to do something, and I start getting nervous, sometimes I'll get lightheaded. I used to faint all the time as a kid, though. I would drop like a fly. I have no idea why either. I know you're relating this specifically to anxiety, but is there a chance that you're anemic?
