Numb with Matthew Perry is about depersonalization disorder.

The Weather Man with Nicolas Cage is pretty existential. Not really SA but it asks questions about life that alot of people with SA ask themselves on a daily basis.

Ghost World has a really Socially Anxious character and he has a pretty prominent role in the movie too.

Clock Watchers: The main character/narrator Iris seems to have a mild case of SA. She temps in an office and some of the other women try to befriend her. It's a dark comedy. I recomend watching it.

Untamed Heart. "A film starring Christian Slater and Marisa Tomei. It mixes drama with romance and comedy and tells the story of a young woman, always unlucky in love, finally finding true love with a very shy young man." (wikipedia)
Slater's character is so shy he is 'mute' at the begining of the movie.

I know about this movie called Gretchen (2006)

Gretchen has bigger problems than abysmal fashion sense: She's 17, painfully awkward and stuck in the most unforgiving place on earth - high school. When her obsession with school bad boy Ricky gets out of hand, her mother sends her to an emotional treatment center to recover. She has to travel elsewhere, however, to truly begin to understand why she fixates on the wrong kind of guy.

Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

A delusional young guy strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the Internet. The young man finds it difficult to interact with or relate to his family, co-workers, or fellow parishioners in the church he regularly attends.

I would say Taxi Driver. Travis Bickle is an SA kind of guy in a lot of ways, just taken to the extreme I suppose. He's definitely socially inept. It's quite hard to watch when you identify with him to some degree. 'I am God's lonely man.'

Yeah. I love Charlie Kaufman and he tends to write characters with SA traits. Like as NYR22 mentioned, the movie Adaptation. I did believe that Jim Carrey's character did have SA- or something like it.

Another Kaufman film in which a character displays SA traits is Synecdoche, New York (which is my favourite film of all time).

Oh yeah, Taxi Driver- loved that one. And I agree LaRibbon, it is hard to watch as I could identify with the character to a certain degree!

I watched Lars and the Real girl a few years ago, and then watched it again recently after my SA got really bad and it was actually physically painful to watch it. It was so personal and resonated with my behavior, and to see other people watch it and laugh at him when he did "silly" things kind of sucked.

"Sideways" is kind of like that. The main character (Giamatti) kind of avoids the **** he can't deal with, and is very relateable. Plus he definitely has the self-hatred for what you are missing out on bit covered.

I definitely agree with Adaptation, Charlie Kaufman is almost unbearable to watch because his social phobia really hits home.
I also agree about Taxi Driver, the guy was obviously socially inept to a crazy degree. I mean, he was completely innocent when he brought his date to a porno movie, he honestly thought thats what couples did. Also, that kind of numbness and alienation he feels is something I think we can all relate to.
I don't think he had SA, but in There Will Be Blood when Daniel Plainview says "sometimes I look at people and see very little worth liking", again I think we can all relate to this to some degree.

The Choking Man is about an intensely shy young man who falls in love with a girl working with him as a dishwasher- a job his shyness confines him to.

If you don't mind snooty French art house flicks, Eric Roehmer's Summer (Le Rayon Vert) is a great film about a woman too shy to properly enjoy her summer vacation.

Another good French one is Intimate Strangers, about a shy accountant who forms a relationship with a woman who walks into his office by mistake, thinking he is her therapist.
