Doing some research for a disabled family member.
Using we found:
Defective allele: Rs6323 (R297R / Arg297Arg) is a SNP in the MAOA (monoamine oxidase A) gene. Monoamine oxidase A degrades serotonin, dopamine, epineprine, and norepinephrine. The G allele encodes for the higher activity form of the enzyme.
Many of you have said that MAOI's were ineffective...(so that leads me to believe that the shoe didn't fit, genetically speaking...)
Note that LENS therapy developed by Len Ochs PhD was very helpful for my family member for anxiety (mainly) and depression (a little bit). Motivation, hopelessness, sleep & memory issues continue to be a daily struggle.
How can a person living in the US can find a "thinks out of the box" psychiatrist willing to prescribe a non-FDA approved drug like Moclobemide aka Manerix.
This has been a daunting process so far.
We have family in the New York tri-state area & San Francisco
Can you help?
