Stressed and was going to go to work but just too tired and anxious. I have been feeling sick some mornings from my nerves so I just told them I was sick so at least I get a little break until Friday.

This was me this morning falling back into bed when I decided to stay home... :fall

The typical US vacation time sucks. Two weeks out of the whole year - ugh - it's no wonder we're tired and stressed. I'm moving to Europe where they get six weeks and siestas every day.

I don't know how we do it. In another year, I will get an extra week - so 15 days vacation. My grandma took me to Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2001 and it was such an eye opener on how uptight we are in the US. Everyone was much more relaxed. Beers for lunch, closing shop from 12-2, sex shops in the airport, lol. Makes you realize how life should be. Work to live, not having work be practically your whole life. I leave the house at 7:15 am and get home at 6pm. Barely gives me time to exercise, eat, relax and go to bed.

Where I work I get 5.3 hours every two weeks of annual, 1.5 combined, and 1.5 sick leave. I have almost 240 hours of annual. You only can collect up to 240 hours, after that if you don't take time off, you get 5.3 hours of pay every two weeks. Thats the only way anyone gets a raise where I work. :lol

Anxiety28,

I am sorry to hear that you had to take the day off. It is nice to have the extra day though.

I was lucky to be able to go out of town for the fourth. Unforunately, it made Monday night crunch time. I was up until 2:30am trying to prepare my work from my Tuesday meetings.

i saw so many people getting away with calling in sick to work whenever they just didnt want to show up, that i was always worried that if i ever got sick, they wouldnt believe me if i called in.

eventually, i ended up having to call in sick because my stomach was feeling really pukey and i wouldnt have made it all the way to work even if i tried. weeelllll... of course the manager thought i was lying, and the next day even said "next time you need a doctors note or youre fired".

i guess i should have just said "im sick and i have a fever" rather than "i ate a whole jar of pickles and drank the juice for breakfast, and i think my stomach really wanted waffles, so im spending the day puking"
which was true. i loove pickle juice.
