If Nobody Speaks Of Remarkable Things by Jon McGregor and Paper Towns by John Green. Also, I'm only partway through, but We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver.

"Therapy" by David Lodge. Contains a good story, existentialist philosphy, Catholic theology, spirituality, semiotics, and jokes. I'm not particularly interested in any of those things, usually, but Lodge just makes them fascinating. Always cheers me up when I'm feeling down, and there is so much in it - every time I read the novel I discover something new in it.

Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series. If you feel like being in another world for 7 books.
Yeah, good books. Not read much else by King but the Dark Tower books were awesome.

Depends what you like reading really. If you like sci-fi (probably not) then Dan Simmons' Hyperion (and The Fall of Hyperion) is one of the best books i've read. It's a fairly heavy read though... pretty lengthy and it's not a happy story by any means.
