Ever tried to read an author, abandoned them, then gone back a while later and discovered you adore their style? I tried to read Hemingway a few years back, was frustrated with his macho sensibility and lost interest. Last week I picked up a book of his short stories and fell in luuuuurve. His writing is gentle, yet unsentimental and frank, and I love the way he makes the simplest, most mundane moments of human behaviour and interaction extraordinary.

Has this happened to anyone else? Which authors?
