I finally was able to see an MD who specializes in chronic pain, and thought I'd be prescribed medication, but the first thing he asks is, "have you tried cranial sacral therapy?" Then he asks about acupuncture, and other alternative treatments. I was told by my primary care doctor that he's the best pain specialist they have (one of the few in town), and he immediately recommends pseudoscience, that I'd actually tried at one point in my life even before I started doing research and learned that it was bunk.

Anyway, he said he was going to do trigger point injections in a couple weeks. I've been looking around and it sounds like the evidence of its efficacy is lacking, but I wanted to read what people here think. Even if it is bunk, I wonder if I should go through with because I worry that he won't give me pain meds without doing everything he asks.

Why don't you try it and see what happens? And you should be happy he is suggesting that over pain meds. Pain med doesn't cure the problem just like all the other pain meds.

I don't consider trigger points injection as pseudoscience. Look up trigger point therapy, it involve releasing knots in the muscles etc. Nothing pseudo about that. Now if you was talking about psychic surgery I would understand.

Anyway I suggest doing it no matter what anybody says here. You have nothing to lose and everything gain, especially if it provides a long term cure. Compare to pains med, popping pills forever.

You can also use a tennis ball and do the trigger point stuff yourself. It should be the same. That is my guess.
