I'm thinking of applying to be a police officer in New Mexico and Arizona, but I live in Kansas. One of the qualifications is to have a NM or AZ driver's license. Does anyone know if that is a definite requirement? Do you have to be a resident of a state before you can work for the police department? Or is it quick and easy to move somewhere new and get a new DL?

That would be a yes. Why not apply in Kansas?

arizona is on a hiring freeze. you can have a license from a different, but if you get hired you have to be obtain one from the state you will be working in. as for residency, it's the same as the license issue.

I will keep consider applying in Kansas. My dad doesn't like the idea supposedly. Would a small town cop really be in that much danger? I can see where big cities danger would be a real issue, but small towns not so much.
