Dear Community Members,

Over the past year or two, there have been updates to the environment that have introduced challenges in usability and performance. Efforts to improve the technology, user interface, and site performance have revealed weaknesses in the platform and outdated software this site uses. This has made it increasingly difficult and frustrating to support and upgrade to more modern reliable standards that users deserve. Our advertising experience and certain ad partners have further degraded the functionality of the site. This is not the experience we want for the members of this community.

Members want a fast site that performs well across all devices, to be able to find relevant and interesting content, and easily share through text, images, video, and messaging on a secure platform. Our goal is to provide this ultimate user experience to all members.

We will be implementing a new platform to better meet the needs of this community and allow us to provide support more efficiently. Our focus is to create a sustainable platform that performs well and loads faster on all devices while offering seamless ways to search and connect. Technology is constantly innovating - by creating an environment that we control we can maintain the site with more frequent improvements and maintenance updates.

Although change can be difficult, we are here to support you through the process. We make every effort to review existing settings and make the changes needed so the migration goes smoothly. If you notice something doesn't seem correct once the site goes live, don't panic! We'll have a dedicated person monitoring as the site goes live to answer any questions and provide support through this change.

What's next?

I bet you're thinking, "What does this mean for me and the community?" It does mean change, but it will help solve a large majority of the issues that this site may have been experiencing. We have reviewed reported issues, site statistics, traffic data, and user feedback to help us prioritize the changes and improvements. Uploading an image or video will be easier and streamlined. Ad formatting will change with a new site layout. The site will be more responsive - there is no need to use a mobile skin or special app! Security and user privacy will continue to be a top priority.

When will this be happening? Soon! We recognize the user experience is slow and there are bugs from the outdated software. The sooner we can change that the better we can make the experience for you. You'll start to see activity related to cleanup in preparation for migration very shortly. We will post an announcement to the community prior to starting the actual data migration. Once the migration begins, the site will go into maintenance mode and will be read-only while data is being migrated.

We appreciate each member's contribution to this community and look forward to an improved experience for you all.

I want to give you an update on the process I use once the site goes live with the new platform.

The night before the site goes live you will see an announcement from me that the site will be going live soon. Once the actual process starts, the site will be in read-only mode while the team does the migration from the old platform to the new one.

Once it goes live you will see an announcement thread created here in this section. All questions and feedback about the new platform should be posted ONLY in that thread.

  • You will see my reply to the thread introducing myself.
  • I will add a new signature and avatar to the admin account.

What should you be doing now before this happens?

  • Make sure your email address is up to date in your account.
  • If you don't remember your password, now would be a good time to reset it. Save the information.
  • The 'My Mood' feature will not be available within the new forum software. We can use signatures for this though.
  • The link that displays all your attachments on the site will not be available, but all attachments will still be in your posts. It might be worth taking the time to browse through the attachment list to see if you want to add anything from there to your albums for easy access later.
  • eGroups will not be migrated over to the new platform. If you have important content, please save it now.

When Will This All Happen?

SAS is currently scheduled for March 29th. HOWEVER, the schedule is very fluid, so that could change depending on any complications or schedule changes. I am simply giving you a heads up.

As your dedicated support, I will be here with you multiple times a day once the site goes live with the new platform, answering questions, and listening to feedback.

My only request is that you remain patient with me while we work through the changes. :)

Good news. The current forum software is very much out of date and a performance increase is most welcome. I'd like to ask for a summary/bullet point list as to what will we gain and what will we lose if different to what's already listed above. Sounds like in terms of content, only eGroups and mood will disappear (not a big deal personally).

Thanks

That'll be nice since we need more things to do and a better community hang-out place at this time especially. I wonder how I'll like it

Lol I actually use a unique email address for this site that I don't use anywhere else since the privacy is so bad here with various glitches and such, and just noticed that the email provider has a policy that they delete your account after a certain amount of time. So they sent me an email saying they would do that if I don't login by the 6th of March. So if I hadn't randomly been inspired to do that by this thread that email would be gone lol. Didn't realise they did that. The funny thing is they sent that as an email to the email address I hadn't signed into in 3ish years.

Something like this also happened to my habbo hotel account, curse you Sulake.

This is what the mods have been told SAS will look similar to once the conversion is complete.

These are the FAQs, which might help everyone get used to navigating SAS before it changes. :)

Here is the main forum index on that forum. For some reason the link they gave us points to a subforum. So it's not that different. @Persephone The Dread That forum does have a dark mode. I assume this one will too. It's a pretty common feature now.

Good to know. This is actually very important to me. Everything I have is set to dark mode where possible.

I actually wish the new version looked just like this one only with just new stuff in the background making it not break all the time. The only thing I don't like about the forum as it is is that Recent Discussions sidebar doesn't show new threads until they get like six replies. Which probably causes low participation (Especially from new members) and results in a lot of threads sinking before they can get started.

Will not be a difficult transition I don't think, though. I'll get used to it.

It's going to take a while to get used to all the cats.
I think we need to add a few dogs to balance it all out, and also perhaps some rabbits.

Being apart of boards with that software before my two questions are in regards to security/ privacy settings. How are you going to handle the follower vs. friends setting (i.e the friends settings you have to accept were followers can just follow you); as well as toggle, having that work for visitor messengers, blogs, private messages, albums. A lot of us have those set to approved friends only. Will we loose that feature? I know on the other software you can choose direct usernames you want to see something but what if you want to let all consenting friends see? Will we still have the chat room? Profile customizations?

From the staff section version of this thread:

Profile information won't be quite as big, but there is room for adding information.

You will have comprehensive FAQs both for the members and for the moderator team.

You will receive an alert for both quotes and mentions.

You will still see when a member joined.

Members will need to use the contact us in regards to deleting accounts.

Profiles (at this time) will not be able to be customized.

The Follow list is the same as the Friends list, just a different name.
