Does anybody have any experience with using Alpha-1 blockers? Are they anxiolytic to any great extent? I recently heard that they are sometimes used in PTSD to prevent nightmares which is why I am curious.

A quick check of wikipedia says they're used for prostates, like those "I used to think I had a going problem, but now my doctor told me I have a growing problem" commercials. Where'd you here about their off-label/new uses?

Well, I have extensive experience with carvedilol and it does help with at least the physical symptoms of anxiety. But as you probably know carvedilol is not just a alpha-1 blocker, but also a non-selective beta blocker. I have never tried a pure alpha-1 blocker.
