Alright i did kind of the unthinkable for an saer's an i applied for a job online last night( thats not the unthinkable part).... its a an entry level job with a lucrative company that sells products door to door sales, but a long story short, they called me up in the morning today and they scheduled an interview with me for tonite at 6:30, me being have in a sleep talking on the phone agreed to come into to do the interview. When i got there there were 10 people waiting for the interview also, and i was really nervous going into their in the first place because it was kind of short notice. Well i ended up getting the job, because the interviewer said that i had all the qualifications for the job, the thing is i know nothing about selling things to people :hide it's going to be really hard because i am scheduled to go in for some seminars from weds-fri this week at i am going to have to endure it. Has anyone else have any experience with sale representatives/ human relations kind of jobs before?

Some of those things are scams, basically. One example is Cutco. You go in for a group interview, they hire just about everybody, and then they'll expect you to sell their garbage (knives etc.) to all your friends and family members.

Once you've exhausted that outlet, which happens pretty quickly for most people, they fire you. (Unless you're especially enterprising, have a big circle to begin with, and through word of mouth are able to drum up steady business. Rare though.)

that is the company that hired me haha it's kind of funny that you mentioned that, yeah i always thought of those kind of jobs as scams also, but since ive seen the product line i can say that they are really good quality(not trying to make a pitch or anything) but i guess you would have to see it it to believe it kind of deal. It can be really tough work to do, but i have nothing better to do at this time so i will attempt to try this out, and there is a customer niche that they apparently sell too the 35-60 people not the young people like most of us.

Someone came to our house a few months ago and made about a two hour sales
pitch to my Mom about why she needed to buy his $2,500 Vacuum cleaner.

I sure wouldn't be good at door to door selling, I'm not forceful enough (or annoying
enough) to keep pestering the person after they repeatedly say no to
me. :fall

I had a friend in college who sold Cutco knives. I'm sure some people are successful at it but she had a very hard time with it and she didn't have SA. She didn't get fired, she kind of gave up because it was too hard to get anyone to buy anything.

I don't doubt that they are high quality, but they're almost impossible to sell. Cutco is latching onto you in hopes that they'll be able to unload a few knives onto your parents and other close relatives. That's the way they work: do a google search on them and you'll hear some of the stories. Hardly anybody is able to make a real job out of working for them.

I think you'd be better off just applying to a grocery store or something, something with a steady salary and regular hours. Grocery stores hire people with little to no experience all the time.

I thought about going back to what i am use to work( customer service at fastfood) or a call center kind of job but it might be good experience for me to gain some confidence even if i dont make alot of sales, i know you have to be really confident and all and lets face most saers lack confidence in themselves so it would be easy to give up, but i believe in a saying " if you put your mind into you can achieve it" and I have nothing else to lose also, so it can be a good way to meet perspective clients and also build friendships also.

Shyguydan,

If you plan on continuing this job, I would investigate and get to know the product you are selling. That should build your confidence at first. I would learn about the material that goes into making them, the durability of the handles, how long they are expected to last, are there steak or paring knives. I have heard of Cutco Cutlery through television. They are legitimate as far as I know. Cutlery is something everybody needs, and if it is at an affordable price, you will likely get sales. They are not as expensive as vacuum cleaners and are used more often.

I think maybe I'll stop here - I have bombarded you with information, but all this stuff is just off the top of my head.
