Hey, just thought I should reply to your question about Stoicism here rather than hijack the welcome thread with it. As you mentioned, I find the dichotomy of control to be very useful, especially in regards to managing anxious thoughts. It does take constant practise, though. I find it to be beneficial to my life in general, as well. I like the focus on ethics and acting virtuously. When I feel I am following the virtues, it gives me a great sense of self worth and makes life feel meaningful, regardless of the outcomes of my actions. It gives me something to have confidence in regardless of my current status. It helps to keep my head held high.
What parts of Stoicism do you disagree with? There are some parts of it that are obviously outdated (their metaphysics, for example), so you do have to pick and choose what is relevant and in line with our current understanding of the world, especially human psychology.
