Went on my first date in ages!

So today I met up with this guy from OKCupid who I've been chatting to for a few weeks (at first just on the website, then we started texting instead). I was really nervous to begin with and I told him that (he knew beforehand I was pretty shy but I didn't mention my SA) but he didn't seem bothered and he said he was nervous too, although he didn't really appear so. We met at a local mall and had lunch at an Italian restaurant which was nice. After that we wandered round for a bit and stopped off for a cup of tea. There were a few lulls in the conversation but for the most part it wasn't too bad and we did seem to get on well in person. He seemed pretty easy-going which helped. There was a slightly awkward moment just before he left where he leaned in towards me and I thought he might be going in for a kiss but I wasn't sure, so I just turned my head to the side and we hugged and he just have me a kiss my cheek. I don't know if it's going anywhere or if we're gong to see each other again at this point, but even if we don't at least it's experience and I'm still really glad I went through with it

Nice, glad it went okay. My few and far between dates have been disasters, the last one she left after 10 minutes after saying she didn't feel any attraction and I had to pay the bill for her drinks. Hopefully you can build on this, maybe meet again and see how things progress. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys. I texted him a couple of hours later to say thanks for a nice afternoon and that I'd enjoyed it - he sent one back fairly quickly saying it was nice to finally meet me.

There's one thing I'm a bit confused about though - right before we said goodbye he said to me, "Don't be so nervous next time." Do you think the fact that he said "next time" implies that he's hoping there will be a second date, or did he mean just next time I go on date (ie. in general, not necessarily with him)?

I'm sure he meant don't be nervous next time on your next date together.

He hasn't texted me again yet. Maybe my nervousness put him off I would like to see him again but i'm honestly not sure if he feels the same and i don't want to keep texting him like some bunny boiler. How long do people normally wait?

He's probably trying to do that weird "gotta wait x number of hours/days before contact." Or something. I wouldn't worry yet.

You beat the challenge - well done. No matter what happens, you did try and that is what counts.
