Finally took the first step

After 6 six years I have gone to my doctor, got a diagnosis and medication as well as a referral to a psychologist!

I even called to confirm my appointment the day before!

I am so happy, this is the only thing I've done that's felt like real progress.

Wonderful news. Oftentimes it's the first step that's the most difficult. Great job of addressing and really working on bettering your life. Good for you.

I'm very happy for you Odinn.

The first step was the most difficult one for me. It gets easier from this point onwards.

Mood and timing is crucial. At any other moment, if I was too depressed or too anxious, it may not have happened.
I got my Dad to call and set up the appointment, but I eventually called to confirm myself just to make up for that.
It was such an easy appointment, I only just met the doctor a few months before but he made the situation comfortable.
I hope that you can find the courage to do so, it's an uplifting experience. (if not pretty nerve wracking at first, haha)

Thanks.

A quick update: I'll be starting Effexor tomorrow. I hope these anti-depressants work!

I remember how I felt when I first needed to go to the doctor, I was already seeing a counselor about my SA but I got an infection and really needed to go to the doctors, I had never gone on my own before or made an appointment. The first time, I remember walking round the corner and seeing the building and I got this shaky feeling going on. I felt real uncomfortable making the appointment and I felt like I was signing my life away to this doctor, like a sacrifice.

The point is, that after this, it got so easy. Almost effortless, once you take the first step it get's easier from there. You start learning things and discovering that there is nothing to be afraid of. Yes you will have your down days, that's just the way life goes but most importantly, you took that first step and you're now one step closer to conquering your SA!

Keep at it, and good luck!
