Does anyone click on the ads?

Does anyone click on the ads? So the SAS overlords make huge profits and don't close the board?

I do. Now and again.

No I don't click on any of the ads, and if I do its accidental. On my laptop the ads are just off to the side so they are not intrusive in anyway, but on my phone its another story, you just have to scroll past them to read posts or they pop up and you have to close them.

I just clicked on an ad for truck tires. I do not own a truck. The CEO of SAS Industries just made ten cents. The forum will stay open for another night.

A previous, really nice laptop of mine got hijacked by a malicious ad and encrypted my files for ransom, put a Trojan on it, etc. etc.; every time I deleted the malware, it'd come right back. And that was WITH up-to-date antivirus software running. A PC specialist couldn't fix it (but charged me for the attempt). Ironically, it happened to encrypt a text file required to start up Dropbox, so Dropbox--which I had set to launch on startup back then--couldn't load. Otherwise, ALL my file backups would've been ruined, too.

I really liked that computer. :/

I use adblockers now. If this site had nice, unobtrusive text ads, I'd let them show. Wouldn't click on them, but would let them show. No way in hell am I clicking on an ad intentionally after what happened before, though. Plus, SAS has had really bad ads that regularly hijacked my old mobile browser the very MINUTE I came to the site, so I had to switch to a new adblocking browser just to come here. (I never experienced that on any other site on my tablet, except ONE time on Tumblr. But the very minute I'd visit SAS, I'd have popups taking over my browser and demanding that I download stuff, and no way to safely get rid of them, so no thanks!)

I created a thread in the help section to report these problem ads. Thing went on over a year with no fix. Admins would take care of one ad only for it to be replaced by another. They aren't interested in fixing the underlying issue of hinky ads, so...I'm not interested in viewing their ads.

Kudos to anyone brave enough to click on them, though! I don't have the guts.

...I don't mean to sound so snippy but I REALLY liked that computer. And OH MAN if Dropbox hadn't been disabled...there would have gone all my writing, all my photos, all my everything. And that PC specialist could've at least refunded my money. She even tried to claim my antivirus software was out of date. Lie.

If I don't reply to you, it's NOTHING PERSONAL. It's my ANXIETY.

I do not see the ads. If they close the forum, they close the forum. It was originally owned and cared for by people who were actually emotionally invested in it. And now the moderators (and some of the members) are the only people who care about it in the same way. I think a lot of people would be disappointed if it went away in that way that you're disappointed if your favorite TV show goes off the air but there have been several attempts to provide people here with alternatives in case that ever happens. With varying degrees of fail.

For all of it's flaws and the fact that it is a shadow of it's former self, it is still a unique place that is basically impossible to replicate. Clicking the ads probably isn't going to make it live long and prosper, however. I'm amazed it is still here with the state the world is in right now. I don't know how any business is surviving right now. Except maybe grocery stores.

It goes both ways. People have to make money but internet companies that use ads have had many years of chances to make ads less obnoxious and invasive and they just haven't done it. They're still just as virulent, obnoxious and disrespectful of one's privacy as they ever were if you unblock them.

SAS is unusable on my computer unless I use an adblocker. It takes like a minute to load each page. There are quite a few sites I can't use without an adblocker now.

I love Society. It is entirely composed now of beautiful idiots and brilliant lunatics. Just what Society should be.

I never see them on my laptop - just on my phone and I don't look at SAS on that anymore. I think I might have looked at a few sometimes - I used to get very bored on the train so I'd basically look at anything just to pass the time.

I think I have a ridiculous amount of extension blockers on my browser that I hardly ever see any ads on most sites. A few times I've browsed this forum on mobile and the amount of popups and ads made it virtually unusable.

The truth is strictly what the ones in power perceives it to be.

Enjoy any good things, even the little and menial ones, as you will never know what impending distresses could descend upon you in a moment.

It can't be replicated - there are still many people on here before me, but even I have been here over 15 years. I was in such a crisis when I got here (I refer to it as my bad church experience). I found out later that the owners at the time.....my stepmother taught all three of her children when they were in the sixth grade! I got to grade their papers . It hit home for me more than many.

The ads have now forced me stop using Internet Explorer. It takes too long to load the page. The ads that appear seem to be from my own activity.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I haven't used I for as long as I can remember. I use it if I absolutely have to when I first install windows. I use it to download Chrome and then I close it and forget it exists.

- IE has been a mainstay, but a lot of sites are not interacting like they used to. It's also Macroshaft, so they're pushing "Edge" a lot; stuff doesn't work on that yet either.

The Task Manager on Windows reveals that when I am this site, for some reason, the memory usages rockets to 500Mb, which might be the issue .

Chrome behaves a lot better, though.

Mods don't get paid and none of us own the forum. Admins get paid by the company that owns the forum. The company that owns the forum is called Verticalscope. That's all I know about it.

You guys should unionize and demand at least a stipend or something. Don't know why anyone would willingly put up with the bulls.hit for free... never understood the appeal of being a forum mod besides charity.

But I'm glad you are

Yup I imagine mods here to be covered in bling.
