I've blocked porn sites from my computer...wish me luck !

Every Lenten season I vow to use Lent to cleanse myself from the habit of watching porn.
Every year I fail at it LOL

This year was no different. I would go for a week, week and a half and then slip back into it again.

However, at the end of this year's lent I did something different.
I blocked the porn sites from my computer using Avast. It's not password protected but at least it's a start.

It's been a week now. I was tempted today and tried to bypass it by opening a different web browser from google chrome (you know us addicts...always trying to bypass our own fail-safe)....but it wouldn't open (The avast blocks the website no matter which web browser you open).

So...yea...I know to the secular world porn is ...awesome. But I want to free myself from this. It wastes time, I use it when I am frustrated instead of finding better ways to work out my anger.

IDK....maybe this seems trivial and stupid to the rest of you...but it's a big step for me

good luck! porn typically encourages a bad attitude toward bodies and sex.

Porn just makes me feel worse, although I still like it.

The world is quiet here.

It's not the ideal blocking method. I'm using avast antivirus...so I have to add each pornwebsite domain name to the blocked list.

I'm not giving up though....I have a bad habit of kicking myself too much when I make mistakes....

Assuming that you really believe porn is your biggest problem in life (unlikely) blocking porn sites doesn't seem to be an ideal solution. Considering that you wouldn't have to block them if you weren't interested in them. Food for thought.

EDIT- I just noticed this is in Spiritual Support but I am not knocking your religious views. I'm just saying that interest in sex is pretty natural and you might make yourself more frustrated by going this route. Especially if you still have limited success in your actual goals.

What about a program where other people close to you see what you are viewing? That would definitely make you more accountable. Also keep busy and try to use the computer less. Isolation and time are two huge negative factors. God bless brother.

Blue Coat K9 FIlter and Qustodio are the best free parenting filters. They block almost about every explicit content. Just remember God is ALWAYS stronger than any sin or temptation. LORD, let me NOT be led into temptation but DELIVER me from All EVIL! Get in temptation's face with the word of God. 'The Holy Spirit is stronger!'. REPEAT it. Look at those women as empty victims with families who need help. And not as pieces of meat to lust over. Hold on, it often takes 1, 2, 3 months to be CONSISTENT and DAILY FOCUS on GOD and His Word to not be distracted anymore. Once your faith grows strong enough and your focus is only on God you will conquer this addiction and not even think about it anymore!

Well done VIncymon

We all have a lot to learn from your example

While you SCREAM at your woman, there's a man, wishing he could talk softly in her ear...

While you HUMILIATE, OFFEND, & INSULT her,
there's a man flirting with her, & reminding her, how wonderful she is.

While you HURT your woman,
there's a man wishing he could show her love

While you make your woman CRY,
there's a man stealing smiles from her.

Grrr, I've just typed out a response and got the error page. Well, here it goes again.

A couple suggestions:

  • I have a different addiction (gaming) and I find physical exertion helps. So if I'm working and suddenly get the urge to play, I fall to the floor and do some push ups. Might work for you too?
  • Instead of banning porn outright, you could aim for better quality porn (with storylines, good acting, etc.), or restrict porn to particular times of the day so it doesn't interfere with other stuff. Or, if porn is a no-no, what about erotica? Much milder and can be equally fun.

Sure, but the idea of what constitutes a sin differs from person to person, even within people of the same faith. The Bible doesn't explicitly forbid pornography, so interpretations vary.

Also: he said that he has so far failed in every attempt to stop watching porn. Stopping anything cold turkey can be hard. Sometimes it's necessary to stop immediately, sometimes it's easier to do so gradually.

Watching porn and doing porn aren't considered as sin if you're not exposing it to the public, because the people who watches porn and the people who does porn are well rested enough to continue proceeding with the process of having their actions evaluated to continue to follow up with the idea.

What is considered as sinning for porn? if you publicly expose the characters behavior that you've watch in porn and how the observers maintain the porn behavior for viewers knowing the consequences of what will happen to humanity.

Sin = Observers among the species who evaluates action
= Consequences for exposing the observers conditions, designs, and technologies.
= Consequences results in receiving no interaction, no job, no income, no partner, and no rest for concentration

^ Which means that there is a way to pause the emulation program from people mentality that is fake from being addicted.

That means the observers among the species technologically watches the activities of each client 24/7.

Multi-Agent Quantum AI Computers observe & manage humanity 24/7 using Quantum Cryptography Satellites to run a thought interval to generate cryptographic keys to refresh key information into thoughts to channel the communication and it replenishes the human brain software machine & vessel 24/7.

You know what would be an even better solution if you have Christian empathy and love for people? Read Andrea Dworkin and Gail Dines. You can also listen to them https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=gail+dines

Not going to say something else I wanted to say because this subforum is for support, not for a debate. But I am surprised how this argument against porn is unpopular within Christianity because love and empathy are the core of Christian faith. Seems like certain groups of people are denied love and empathy due to unwritten rules.

Anyway, good luck to you

Whats'ya gonna use the porn time for instead ? Unless you were majorly addicted to it, to the point it interferes with other activities, which some are I guess, I don't see the harm in a little in moderation, but some people are all or nothing I guess : /

And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death
Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow,
A poor player that strut's and fret's his hour upon the stage and is heard no more,
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I disagree, it is not that clear cut. You see it from where you're standing, of course, but not everyone is standing at the same point. For example, when I was a catholic (of sorts), lust was only a sin when it was lusting after someone else's spouse or belongings (it's in the commandments).

Then again, some hell and brimstone churches, the mormons and orthodox jews denounce all lust (i.e. all sexual desire). That's when you get people having sex through a sheet with a hole cut in it, which I think is a sin against life and love.

But we don't have to agree! Kevin, you've always been nice to me and I'm not here to pick a theological fight with you. I'm here to make some suggestions for op who's trying to deal with his porn addiction. This can be done in one go or by taking steps towards it, whatever works for him. The fact that he's tried to "just quit" in the past and it didn't work makes me think that a more gradual approach (i.e. moving to erotica first, or limiting time of engagement) might help him get where he wants to be.
