It happened several times when I was in Bolivia. Most of the time it was just extremely watery diarrhea with stomach pains for a day or two. Then I'd get random gut pains off and on for weeks afterwards. Let me tell you, don't eat strawberries in Bolivia. Rinsing in water is not enough. Also if the street vendor asks if you want lettuce on your burger, say no. Lettuce is bad. Also got giardiasis which is an amoeba, so you take anti-amoeba medicine for it. But when the amoebas are dying, OMG, they let off so much rotten egg gas. I was feeling better and wanted to go to my favorite restaurant. Eating out in Bolivia is so cheap, like $3 for a decent meal with beverages, I'm talking non-fast food. But yeah, my farts were so deadly that I had to just get take-out. Otherwise I would have bombed out the whole restaurant.
Only happened maybe once or twice in the US and Japan and the diarrhea wasn't nearly as bad as it was in Bolivia.
I have vomited many, many times but 99.9% of the time it is due to alcohol. So I guess that is a type of food poisoning. I only got food poisoning once in Brazil and that was one of the few times where it was coming out both ends. Back and forth, back and forth between hugging the throne to puke up my guts and sitting on the throne to let it all out the other end. Still not sure what was the cause. Either seafood restaurant or Minas fresh cheese.
