My walls are pretty thin too and can hear everything the neighbours are doing, I've got wireless headphones I use so I don't make too much noise.

Sorry to hear that.

(No pun intended )

I guess you could wait to see if someone complains, probably not the best idea though... You could get some headphones to listen to the music and stuff though that won't help with them hearing you singing.

Some people heard my words and thought it meant they knew me
Truth is, I don't exist, I'm just a soundtrack to your movie
Some background figure in a story that's already scripted
And what I feel's just felt for you to hear me ****ing spit it
I jump in many different heads through these words and poems
Always hoping maybe the next leap'll be my leap home

My Mood: Doubtful
I live in a newly built apartment building, and I feel like there's no walls at all. I can hear my neighbors' triplets whispering to each other, I swear. A house would be nice.. some day.

What really matters is if you naturally project your voice and it makes your voice carry. My two sons were talking in the kitchen last night, and one of them was just a constant mumble, the other I could hear everything he said. The volume doesn't seem that different when you're in the same room, but one voice carries and the other doesn't. if you can figure out that your voice doesn't carry, it might not be so bad.

This has always been a concern of mine as well. I've looked into soundproofing options, though not sure how much is realistic...

Carpeting would help absorb echoing...

Wireless headphones? ...although who wants to be wearing headphones all the time...

I really hate the idea of people hearing me (candidly) at all.

Ugh, I know your pain. I had the same problem with my second apartment. My bedroom was right next to another bedroom, and the girl that lived there would often make so much noise everytime her boyfriend came to visit every other week that I had to go to coffee shops and libraries everytime I needed to study. And the noises that were coming from that bedroom? Sex? NOPE. All they ever did was bicker and fight. I even heard her throw a stack of papers at him. Sad thing is, I've never even heard them have sex the whole year I lived with her lol.

At my previous apartment, in general I could not hear my neighbors. Only if the downstairs guy blasted his electronic music or watched TV loudly would I hear much of anything. He would do that for like only an hour or two a day, so it wasn't so bad. I didn't hear the apartments to the left or right of me.

What was nasty, was someone in the building would hork stuff up extremely loudly with their throat while in the bathroom and that sound would carry to my bedroom window if I left it open. I assume they left their bathroom window open while doing this. Must have been a new resident cause the first year I didn't hear it.

I could see that being a deal-breaker for me. I hate that sound.

Always so very blunt and descriptive.

It's like I'm hearing it right now.

That has to be one of the most disgusting noises.

I've been in a house for over eight years now -- a quiet court, too. Prior to that, I was apartment-living for the better part of 13 years, and this is all bringing back some bad memories of godawful neighbours.

My grandmother used to do this ALL THE TIME. I can just remember all through my childhood hearing that sound whenever she was around. I hate to say it because I loved her but man that got irritating. Do old people just do this or is there something that causes it?

Maybe you could buy that sound absorbing foam panels/thingys and hang them up on your walls.

They won't do much and they are expensive for what they are, OP needs to build his own acoustics panels. Sabine formula to know how much he need for his flat, then he can start building those.
