I love the rain

About 30 minutes ago, where I live, there was a decent sized storm. Torrential downpour that covered the streets in a sheet of water.

Cars stopped, people ran for cover, and I sat there treasuring the beauty that was this natural occurrence

I love the earthy smell of the water hitting the ground (I believe it is called "Petrichor"), I love the heavily grayed skies, I love standing out in the rain and just being humbled.

When it rains, especially as heavily as it did today, it is almost as if for a very brief moment, time has stopped and it feels like the world has ended.

When it rains heavily I can finally find solace momentarily taking in the beauty of it all. My depression, SA, and all of my other problems dissipate for a short little while.

I don't wish to see anyone hurt but I just love watching nature at work, whether it be a large tornado in an open field, snow, heavy rain. It reminds me of how inconsequential I am and most things that trouble me, are and mean nothing outside the confines of Earth. Especially considering how minor even the worst of Earth's weather is compared to other planets.

What helps you get by?

I love rain as well. It's one of the best natural background noises.

my SO used to think i was kind of a nut whenever there would be a torrential downpour.

I'd run through the house with this huge grin of absolute GLEE on my face, open a window and smile.. and smile.. while the rain came down.

Sometimes, i would run out to the patio, and stand there under the portelle contentedly when it rains.

Sometimes, i will clap my hands and giggle like a happy child. The thunder and lightning is an absolute bonus.

Over the years, i think my SO understands me.

When it rains, he turns off the t.v., turns down the lights looks at me with a smile and says: "Hey Babe, it's your favorite weather."

it's great but I can't stand the after weather, like the sky is still covered by clouds but they're white and the sun just makes them incredibly bright. Especially in an urban area where it just makes all the gravel and buildings look really high contrast and depressing. I love the grey rainy part though, which is good because I live in the UK

So calming. If I can't watch it, I try to open up a window and fall asleep to it. It honestly helps me get by.

Did it? Hope you got what you wished for.

Watching planes fly. Ahh yes. There is definitely a freeing element to watching something temporarily not be bound to this hellacious ground that we average folks are attached to. Up there, you can truly appreciate the magnificence of being unrestricted to an extent.

Obviously there are air travel regulations but you get the point of my statement.

I would personally love to experience travel on the seas. Controlling your lifeline directly by physical exertion is appealing and seems to be a great way to relieve stress.

Hail, gusty gale force winds winds. So beautiful.

Believe me, sometimes I too laugh uncontrollably when it starts to rain. I can't help but be taken aback by it. The smell, the shine it gives the pavement, the sound, the rain itself; extremely magnificent to me.

Understandable. In certain aspects I agree with you like when the Sun "comes out" right after the rain. But if there is still a little bit of grey cloud cover and the Sun peaks out, it can create a great atmospheric presence.

I wish that I lived in a place that was cloudy all of the time.

Indeed. I'm looking into the reasoning as to why but the rain has a history of making people feel either cozy and a little more docile or amped up with adrenaline of sorts.

I was quite content today myself.

"At Peace" that is a great and more simplistic way off putting it. At the slightest hint of any inclement weather, most people freak out, flock to their local stores and procure as many supplies as they can. Then when the weather does hit, they mostly spend their time indoors.

This leaves room for folks like you and I to actually enjoy walking outside. My anxiety is practically gone when it rains.

For certain. It is a very humbling experience if you appreciate it. It gives you time to mull over what is important or it just gives you a chance to get comfortable and cozy.

As odd as it sounds, it makes me feel safe as well.

Rain is always delivered as bad news in weather reports but pfffft to that - I love rain. There's nothing like being all snug in bed listening to it hitting the roof.

I enjoy when the rain comes down when it is too humid on hot days. I also like it if I was not sure If I wanted to go out and then it pours and it makes my decision for me. If i'm not like outside at the beach or in an outdoor pool then I don't like getting caught in the rain.

Majorly agreed.
I've always been somewhat annoyed by how even the chance of rain, was delivered as bad news.

The constant pattern in which is falls and hits your roof oddly helps me think,

In modern day society, most folks are moving too quickly to appreciate the beauty of just the mere shiny remnants of rainfall. I guess it doesn't interest most people but I always take notice myself as well.

California has no idea what the heck is this "rain" thing you're talking about.

Enjoy any good things, even the little and menial ones, as you will never know what impending distresses could descend upon you in a moment.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm glad that i'm not the only one who thoroughly enjoys this type of weather, almost with a passion too.
