Anyone older have it so bad...

that they can barely talk to people in real life?

Like it's been months since I've had a proper conversation with someone in real life.

I can talk to people and hold lengthy quality conversations, and I want to, but have only had 1 real life conversation in the past 53 days anyway. It's perplexing. I guess it's because I'm only willing to dare conversations in safe settings, not start one with a random neighbor or person on the street.

I used to have an account here a couple years ago and I remember you JohnDoe.
You were always cool with me.

I can barely talk to people IRL, online, on the phone, in writing, anywhere. My one-on-one anxiety knows no bounds.

If I don't reply to you, it's NOTHING PERSONAL. It's my ANXIETY.

I can talk to my therapist, does that count?

I love Society. It is entirely composed now of beautiful idiots and brilliant lunatics. Just what Society should be.

I'm the opposite. If you talked to me I wouldn't shut up - you wouldn't need to say anything. The only thing you'd need to worry about is whether I'd eat you alive as well.

My problems are very different to most people's here, but I do get very anxious too sometimes.

Unfortunately I think you are, anyone older than 20's probably is. I wouldn't worry though.

Edit: sorry, on the forum I mean.

You mean because I'm so old?

Sorry, I was talking about on here - the average age used to be early 20's or something.

I'd give everything I own just to be 40 again, so I wouldn't worry too much.

anxiety melts the brain, that's why I'm so bad at conversations, even when calm. Used to have good memory as a kid, not anymore.

Not sure what your definition of 'old' is, but in some ways, yes. But I think it's more or less having the need to speak to some people which I'm not sure is a possibility now, depending on how the situation goes a few months from now...

Yea I can barely talk these days or find something to talk about. I'm trying to care less and just say what's on my mind but it's really much a work in progress. I don't quite think it's the amount of people you talk with but the quality of your social interactions. If someone walks away feeling better having talked to me then I'd say that's a huge plus. Plus I can't read emotions for **** so.. Yea, maybe I should start there. It's always nice when people automatically do that and respond to you, so im conscious that I can at least do the same or try to.

I'm 45, not sure if that qualifies me as "old" lol.

My SA was still pretty bad up until a few yeats ago.

During most conversations/interactions I would start to feel my face getting hot, and if I happened to be near a reflective surface I'd see myself looking like a sunburned tomato.

My strategy was to escape the situation ASAP, and eventually to avoid interactions whenever possible.

Thankfully these days I'm heaps better. I actually enjoy a bit of chit-chat with random people.

I only wish I'd given Nardil a try sooner!
