I stocked and took care of / ran the hardware and sporting goods dept at Walmart years ago when I was in college. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I tried very hard, and was successful, for years, at not getting trained to be a cashier but, eventually, they caught me, and I was trained to do it. I quit not long after that. Seriously.

I've worked cash at a pizza place, a gas station, & at my current job at a liquor store. Honestly it really depends on the context of the retail environment how intense it is. I would never under an circumstances work in a grocery or big box store like Walmart because those places are always zoos of people but at my current job even at its busiest it's still pretty chill and I find that even if I have awkward interactions with people there isn't much time to dwell on it because you'll have another customer soon enough

working cashier at a slow moving shoe store in a mall was ok. boring but ok enough. at a dept store during holidays was tough with busy shoppers where my numpad typing wasn't as good as others and i make too many slight dyslexic mistakes. The worst by far was grocery store in a poor town. often horrible people. sometimes the same people on food stamps coming back throughout the day again and again..

Yes, it was okay.. kind of stressful when the morning hit, but okay. It was at a convenience store, third shift, so most of the people who came in were pretty cool, that is the thing about people who are up that late, they are usually pretty cool people, and weird just like me

Yeah, when I was working at a fast food place back in the day I would occasionally do a stint on the cash register, mostly at the drive-thru window which was easier for me than the front counter.

I worked in the GNC at my local mall back for six months in 2004. It wasn't too bad because our mall is nearly deserted most of the time, so I was never busy. There were nights only like two customers would come in my whole shift. Still not my something I'd choose without exhausting other options first.

I ran the cashier at a food place for a few years. At first it is scary and stressful, but after you learn it, it goes by easier.

You will have so many customers that you won't worry as much about each individual customer.

The beginning is the hardest so hopefully they train you. Ask lots of questions from your shift leaders/boss or coworkers if you don't know!!

I was a cashier in a very busy grocery store and it was the worst job I've ever had. My advice to you is to take it easy. Don't overdo it or over-stress yourself. I look back on that first job now, after going through four other jobs, and I wish I had taken it far less seriously than I did. For any job that is minimum wage and with many easily-obtainable equivalents out there, I recommend: taking it easy, calling out whenever you are sick or there's bad weather, and letting managers deal with things that aren't your problem. Just focus on making money. This is not bad advice. You will over-work yourself to be completely unappreciated and treated like crap otherwise.

Interviewed for it this morning. Worst , most awkward interview I've ever had. Pretty sure I'm not getting the job anyways but we'll see.

Never been just a cashier but I do run the till at work when I'm at the parts counter. I don't like it when people pay cash for an expensive item, its so much easier when they pay on debit or credit.

It's an easy job but it made me hate people.

I've done and I hated it. It's exhausting doing it all day. Some days I just stumbled on my words and said nonsense because my voice was exhausted from all the talking.

My first job was as a cashier in a convenience store. There were no scanners in 1993...except for the high-tech places. We had to remember what was taxable and what wasn't. Most food is non-taxable except for non-100% juice and soda, etc. We had to remember all of that.

yeah like every job i've ever had. when i was younger i actually had a really awesome cashiering job...though, this was prior to my anxiety and parnoia levels reaching where they're at now. was kind of a unique situation where there was one little booth thing with two registers a foot away from each other. so you'd literally be standing right next to your colleague. the place i happened to work was really only busy from like 5 pm to 6 or 630 so the majority of the remaining time spent during a 1-930 shift was just standing with your coworker and joking around. best job i have ever had.

once my anxiety got worse i couldnt cashier anymore

now i'm a complete loser trying to get on disability who can't work, can't go to university, lives at home and has no future, so i'd say give it a shot
