No more expectations, just results

The thing that's been keeping me tied down in life has been my compulsive obsession with upholding "my" values.

I grew up staying inside the house all the time (because of my parents). I didn't really get to experience life, and all I did was go to church. Because of this, I developed a strong sense of idealism and naivete about the world.

Even though I'm not religious anymore (and no offense/disrespect to religious people), I'm still affected by this part of my childhood. I always feel like things have to be a certain way.

I've stayed tied down to that way of thinking for so long, that I didn't learn how to cope with the stuff that life throws at you.

But that's about to be old news soon. I'm not going to be some rock that just sits there, taking punishment, anymore. It's about time that I start moving forward in life.

Instead of being some tree that's under the impression that it's sturdy, I'm going to be the pesky weed that doesn't go away. Trees get taken down by some wind, but weeds keep hanging on.

So one thing that I'm going to practice more is the idea that:

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

That's a pretty excellent quote. Much luck to you. Someone once described happiness as an equation : Expectations - Reality = Happiness. Letting go of certain expectations (especially ones that come from something you don't even believe in anymore) should benefit you some.
