Not from a movie but i really admire that character nucky from boardwalk empire, sure he's not the nicest guy around but i just feel envious of the life he lives always eating at fancy restaurants, dresses in the finest suits, can get any woman he wants and all that confidence and power he has.
Polar opposite to me i guess.

The Dude from Big Lebowski was always a kinda idol to me, that is the life.

Dr House also, his frankness and ability to cut thru the fat and gloss of every topic and get to the point is a rare trait.

Don Corleone, the way he decided not to be a pawn, take control and make a life for himself.

Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans.

Not just for successfully integrating his football team in a time full of racism and segregation, but how he rallies a bunch of high school guys who start out completely against each other and turns them into teammates - all while overcoming hate and resistance himself. Yeah, it's one of those "feel-good" films where that's supposed to happen, but Denzel just crushed the role. Guy just never gave up on people.

Although as my sig might indicate, Mal Reynolds in Firefly and Serenity's still right up there, too.

Movies are dramatized fiction and escapism and most aren't based on what would actually happen in real life. I don't think it's healthy to idolize a fictional character. I've been guilty of it myself (see threads from months ago about idolizing a character from a TV show) but then I realized, it was more so his appearance and face I envied, not his character on the show.

Sorry to sound like such a debbie downer. I guess I'm just not much of a movie person anyway. Other than Van Damme movies, early Seagal movies before he was fat, and a few random movies like the Back To The Future trilogy, I'm not a movie person at all. I find myself just looking at my watch and seeing how much time is left most times I watch a movie.

Getting back to the point: fictional characters are just that, fictional and aren't meant to be role models.

too many for me to name. Some movies I've seen way too many times, and sometimes I go ages without watching any movies.

Lately I'm watching some again. And without friends, I find it easy to want to be cool like movie characters. And I even find myself repeating little lines that get stuck in my head

Like when I'm in rush, about to leave the house, I'll say "what ever you're gonna do, do it fast"...thats from Vasquez in Aliens

Protagonist teachers and most movies about them, like To Sir with Love. Especially those characters who are based on real people--the teachers in Dangerous Minds, Stand and Deliver, and Freedom Writers, for example.
