Wouldn't this situation contradict that theory of "russian collusion" between Trump and Putin?
not necessarily. foreign policy is full of contradictions.
this whole russian thing-- nations are constantly meddling in each others affairs, both officially and covertly. trying to understand the world without accepting that first seems like a recipe for being led, which is probably why no one is explaining it to everybody. "but i thought kim loved kanye!" "sure, but then theres the new venezuelan leader!" yada yada yada. its not that i think youre wrong, i just dont think most of the people involved in the conversation are starting from a very realistic premise.
on one side, you have people who assume russia isnt always meddling and oh, what a scandal!
on the other, you have people who assume russia isnt meddling right now. and oh, seriously?
to me, its like finding out that the president had an affair.
"he what? right in the oval office?!
well lets just stop running the country and make this the most important event on the planet as if it doesnt happen all the time..."
im not actually saying we should be totally blase about it. but theres got to be something reasonable somewhere between blase and "gee wally, i sure miss the cold war!"
if it was as the left says, a complete scandal that we can put squarely on the republicans, thats-- convenient, and probably worth looking into.
the problem is theyre pretending theyre any better. and that, i dont believe for a single minute. there are no saints doing international politics. even gandhi wasnt a saint, what do you want to wager that any of these people are?
you wanna open up every closet? knock yourself out. just dont act shocked that you found stuff, because theyre all taking money from citizens and plotting how to kill each other and profit from scandals. thats their job-- thats pretty much what international politics is.
oh-- and look good while doing it! maybe its not all bad, but all good? hahahahaha... great. everybody go with that. sure yeah, ill believe it if you will.
blase would be "i dont care, this doesnt matter" but honestly, thats how it is for most people in every party. the left mostly doesnt care if bernie or hillary is caught, and the right mostly doesnt care if trump is caught-- and the country as a whole doesnt care unless everybody agrees its a huge freakin scandal.
lost in all this is the idea that if you dont want to be manipulated by russian information agents-- stop creating and arming and standing willingly in the line of ideal information weapons like facebook and mainstream media and passive consumerism. is that too hard?
oh, well-- sorry then.
