Venezuela absolutely would be a flourishing nation right now if it weren't for US/UK interference. It seems like our long history of screwing w/ Latin American countries over the last couple hundred years would make this obvious, but apparently not. What we've been doing to VZ the last couple years is the same thing we've done to other countries down there for decades so I'm not going to give a history lesson about our dealings w/ Venezuela since we all have the internet.
Our government has many reasons to overthrow Maduro, and no it isn't to help the poor Venezuelans and it sure as hell isn't to "spread democracy" (btw how are we supposed to spread what we ourselves don't have..)
Venezuela is sitting on some extremely rare natural resources, not just the largest proven oil reserve in the world, as well as a literal goldmine, diamonds, etc, but they're also a source of a number of rare earth minerals. Right now China is virtually our only source of certain minerals that are essential for not only our ability to manufacture weapons (as well as other electronics) but they're also essential for our military to continue functioning. VZ is the other source of those minerals. VZ is also one of our few sources of heavy crude oil, the Koch brothers only deal in that kind of oil so they have a vested interest in this as well as other corporations like Monsanto wanting to open up the market down there.
When a small country has what we want, what do we do, ask nicely for it?
