COVID-19 - Political Thread

A few days ago, Matt Gaetz pokes fun of people worrying about the coronavirus. Now, he is on because he was in contact with someone that contracted the virus You can't make this stuff up.

And here's the icing on the cake. Gaetz was on Air Force One with traitor trump shortly before he self quarantined. Knowing what a ***** traitor trump is, I wonder how he'll react to that.

I will say first that I do not wish COVID-19 (or any other infliction that could result in severe illness and/or death) on anyone.

What I will say is that Matt Gaetz is a c**t and it is mighty ironic that he is self-isolating after wearing that gas mask.

Honest question, as Gaetz was with the president on Air Force one... and because Doug Collins was with the president at his colossal CDC press disaster... has Donald Trump been tested? He's 73 ffs. I also hear on the news just minutes ago that he's planning a rally tomorrow, we just don't know where yet. How can someone, anyone, in his administration beat the seriousness of COVID-19 into his thick skull?

NOBODY is blaming Trump for Americans being infected, yet he's behaving as if it's something he needs to put up a defence against. People are indeed blaming him for the terrible response to it, and for speaking publicly in ways that has driven me to finally legitimately question his mental health.... and rightfully so.

How? By telling people to avoid life? The only time we are going to have problems is if there is a positive test occurs near us. What are we supposed to do? Stop living a normal life with vigiliance? Stay inside right now and don't do anything?

We keep our hands clean; we keep our hands away from our face.
We have hand sanitizer and wipes. I could even make my own hand sanitizer if I had the ingredients.

Trump is going about daily life; fear about the virus isn't supposed to keep us from at least doing things. Panic has already gotten us into trouble.

If there's a positive test that occurs near us... you need tests to be available first. British Columbia has tested 2000 people so far and we have 32 confirmed cases. As of March 6, the US had only tested roughly 1900 people. How is that possible?

The US has 330 million people. Until there's enough tests for everyone, fear is understandable. For you and me, not fear for ourselves either, but fear for our older loved ones who are at an extreme risk from this virus. If the time comes where I may have been exposed, you're damn rights I'm putting my life on hold for a couple weeks because I will not risk passing it on to my dad, who has respiratory issues already. We can do everything in our power to protect ourselves, but there are plenty of stupid people out there who don't think this is serious at all and we risk exposure from them.

A leader who says anyone who wants a test can get a test, when that is absolutely not the case, causes panic. A leader who when there were 15 cases said there would be zero soon and that the virus is contained, and a week later there are over 700 confirmed cases, causes panic. A leader who stands at the CDC and says that his uncle is a super genius and that he told his VP to not be nice to the governor of the worst-hit state because he's a snake, should have anyone question his leadership.

As for Trump going about daily life, he's been in immediate proximity of a handful of people who are now self-isolating, including his new chief of staff. The very least he can do is get tested and show the people he's supposed to be leading, some evidence that he actually is healthy. Do you really want your government officials putting on a show like the Iranians did when they coughed all over everyone near them on national tv? There is nothing wrong with preventative measures that include self-isolation, and from the government, the truth. I hope no other country needs to do what China did and Italy is now, where you literally shut the country down, but I'm not confident we won't see it elsewhere. If it becomes necessary anywhere in the US, will your government be honest about it and do it, or will they downplay it and let the virus run rampage?

The tests are being mass produced now. They had to identify the virus and figure out how to check it first. This isn't an immediate process. It was sped up due to a law we have that is normally enacted in times of war. Then, the person has to bested daily, requiring more than one test.

People are self-quarantining. A person can only guess if they were around someone and that's if they test positive. We have Congressmen isolating themselves and have yet to show any symptoms after five days.

China and Italy didn't have the controls we do. We banned travel as soon as we found out about it. it would be a lot worse here otherwise. The vast majority of the cases are still being pinpointed to travel.

It is NOT being downplayed. The issue is paranoia and panic and not calming down enough to be informed.

Most of the cases are mild - the latest is a man who was quarantined because he had an immune system condition that put him at risk for complications. He said he had a 103F fever for 10 hours and then the dry cough. That's weaker than the flu - where the fever lasts for days. He is still contagious even though the fever is long gone and he still has the leftover dry cough.

If South Korea can test people by the thousands every day, weeks before the US is mass-producing a test, there is no excuse. Clamping down on flights from China didn't do anything. We did that here too and the virus is still in Canada. Trump and some of his administration repeated "it's contained because we stopped travel" bull**** as the number of cases began to rise. I have no doubt the virus was in North America well before China even came out to tell the world about what was happening in Wuhan.

Donald Trump is downplaying this virus. He said today that he didn't get tested because he doesn't think it's a big deal to do it. Then take the f***ing test as the leader of the free world. The virus should not be a political issue, but Trump has kept making it one. He was on twitter today saying how the wall is needed now more than ever because of the virus, when Mexico has 7 cases.

I agree about the paranoia and panic being an issue. Donald Trump is causing more paranoia and panic by being so passive about it and using it for political gain. The right thing for Trump to do would be to have CDC experts speak about the virus in his place.

Most cases are mild. Nobody is denying that. However, until treatment and a vaccine is developed in 12-18 months, this virus is still extremely dangerous to the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Most of us have friends and/or family members who fit that description. It's not smart for anyone to have a "not a big deal" attitude at this point. Take smart precautions, don't get into a cage match for toilet paper.

For one thing, how would South Korea be that advanced - as if they knew ahead of time? America shipped off the majority of the medication manufacturing to - you guessed it - China. We did not have a coronavirus outbreak like this before either. It was something we never needed to produce a lot of tests. We had less than a handful of Ebola cases. SARS was minimal.

Trump isn't being passive at all. We are getting daily briefings on the effort and how things are going. He is actually going on with daily business as we should. I said before, we shouldn't have to come to complete halt to wait for a virus that we might not catch. He is using laws that were specified for war time to divert resource to making the tests, masks, and vaccine study. That's not minimizing. The new cases we are encountering - including the first three in my state - are from flights to Egypt and contact with somebody in Washington, D.C. All three cases are in Cleveland. Ohio State in Columbus is having their students stay in their dorms. Events are being cancelled - mainly from the panic of being in large crowds and somebody possibly having it.

If there was ever a case against globalism - this crisis would do it. It exposed our overdependence on China for meds. They locked themselves down and now are threatening to mess with what they are going to our medications.

The 12-18 months is because our Food and Drug Administration put constraints on the way things are tested and the quality of the vaccines. It can be sped up, and they are trying to do that. We don't even know what we are supposed to get from China either.

WHO declares coronavirus a pandemic. I wonder how traitor trump will spin this for the poorly educated. This is the first crisis he's encountered and has failed massively. His main concerns are the hotel industry and the market, his bottom lines.

Good question. I'm sure if it comes to that they'll figure out a way to make voting still happen.

It's a legitimate concern though, if it gets to that point we might have less voter turn out.

Interesting.

While it’s unclear whether fears about COVID-19 will affect U.S. voter turnout, and if so by how much, the recent elections in Iran offer an instructive example. Two days before the country’s Feb. 21 parliamentary elections, Iran announced its first case of COVID-19. By Feb. 23, there were 43 confirmed cases and eight deaths, marking the highest fatality rate outside of mainland China at the time. In response, people skipped the polls:*only 43% of the population voted—the lowest participation rate since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Traitor trump continues to show the world what a slow witted imbecile he is. This is what happens when you have a president that doesn't believe in science and is more concerned with his bottom line than the people.

I have no problem with the 30-day travel ban from Europe. I wouldn't mind if Canada did the same thing. It is odd that the UK is not included though. They're another major country that is right there with the US with a slow reaction to this issue. Just like the US, the UK has the virus running rampant, we just don't know how bad it is because they're not testing nearly enough people!

The tone of the speech though, was basically "this is China and Europe's fault". Trump just cannot help himself. This isn't something anyone is blaming him for, yet he needs to be on the defensive. It's embarrassing.

As for the content of the actions, zero mention of how they plan to sustain the healthcare system as hundreds of thousands get infected. That's worrying.

With the travel ban, how will the US handle those who connect to the US via another country, IE: Canada?
