Frequent hand washer

So.. I don't know which section to post this on. I've been what I'll say is a frequent hand washer for years. However, its been worse recently with all the covid-19 constant hand washing reminders. After I use the bathroom or do something else I wash my hands after I will often now think what if I didn't was h them right? What if that wasn't 20 seconds? I'll also often feel like I forgot if I just washed my hands. As a result of these things I lately spend a lot of time washing my hands(I wouldn't be surprised if I spent 15 minutes on and off washing my hands after using the bathroom). I will wash them, think this things than wash them again and again and again often. My hands have lots of cracks in them now and have been bleeding and are uncomfortable. an anyone else relate or have any tips?

I've had this problem for years. I get cracks in my skin right where my fingers bend and it makes doing anything hurt. Sounds weird, but cover your hands with a mix of moisturizing lotion, triple antibiotic ointment, and Vaseline and then put rubber gloves over them and sleep like that a few nights a week. It'll clear it up fast.

Thanks I've never heard of antibiotic ointment before. Also I wore winter gloves to bed last night cuz I was worried about getting blood on my bedding.

Triple antibiotic ointment is just the generic for Neosporin.

i used to have OCD....it drove me round the twist.....i think the underlying problem was social anxiety which gave rise to ocd behaviour. Ive heard it said that ocd behaviour is related to anxiety and a need or attempt to be in control.....is this true, correct me if im wrong

soap meant for sensitive skin might help, that's what I use and it is much better than regular soap, especially in excessive use.

irishkarl, I seem to have started having some very ocd like symptoms. This being the main one. Started prozac today to try to help with any anxiety, depression and obsessions but I don't want to say for sure if I have anything or not. Are you saying you don't have ocd anymore? Raises ya, that could help as well.
