Taiwan in the last 30 years has really outdone itself. No wonder the mainland Chinese government is so afraid of them! They show a better way that is appealing to the majority of Chinese people.

I am kinda surprised an East Asian country approved gay marriage. Then again I have never been to Taiwan, nor know how they are culturally compared to other east asian countires.
Ultimately this decision should lay with the country itself and I guess they choose to do this. Maybe this will spark other East Asian countries to consider this as well?

Amazing how much of an opposite direction culturally and politically they have gradually evolved to compare to mainland China. Even then, I am surprised they did this, in a good way.

I think majority of the people there still are opposed to the idea of gay marriages in general. It's just this signifies a trending shift in favoring or accepting of it. And hint that it will be the consensus of the new generation.

I can also see Korea and/or Japan being the next ones to shift to this too.

The truth is strictly what the ones in power perceives it to be.

Enjoy any good things, even the little and menial ones, as you will never know what impending distresses could descend upon you in a moment.

It's good I guess but I frankly never even knew it was a contentious issue there. I mean I guess the concept of gay marriage is a relatively recent development but I didn't know being gay was a problem in Taiwan. Or China either, for that matter.

Doesn't really impact me, but congrats to the people it will benefit. I don't think there should be laws against things that aren't hurting others.

if someone says that everyone will be disgusted.

Taiwan is the New Zealand of Asia. quite a few Taiwanese people come here to escape the eventual Chinese takeover and surrounding drama.

Probably sounds great from the headlines type of view for those outside of Taiwan. I don't know much about their culture, but many East Asian countries are still traditional, so it could have an opposite effect on an individual level there.

Doesn't really phase/affect me.

It's funny actually (I know you're being sarcastic,) because marriage institutionally is all about promoting childbirth/raising children, so banning marriage for everyone would have a greater impact if someone wanted to erase family values.

The teeth have long departed
Yet the desire burns strong
On in desire for destruction
One on which she'll depend
One that ceases to deepen
Too near bitter end

You're still yours, you're still yours"

Taiwan might be the most socially progressive country in Asia. They experienced a strong social shift in the last 3 decades, when they've been rapidly accepting new ideas and welcoming controversial opinions.

Makes one wonder just how far the mainland China could have gone if their political system was sound....

It's fine. Marriage (to me) is just a legal contract anyway. I never see why people make a big show out of it, for or against.
