She now says abstinence is the only 100% safe sex.

Bristol Palin Reverses, Says Abstinence Is a 'Realistic' Choice for Teens
Bristol Palin now says abstinence is a "realistic" choice for teenagers who want to avoid pregnancy

Unwed teen mom Bristol Palin did a turnabout Wednesday with her views on teen sex, saying abstinence is a realistic option for teenagers.

Palin, who gave birth to a boy four months ago, told ABC's "Good Morning America" that she wishes she'd waited to have sex. She said abstinence is a realistic way for teens to avoid unwanted pregnancy.

"Regardless of what I did personally, I just think that abstinence is the only way you can effectively, 100 percent foolproof way you can prevent pregnancy," the 19-year-old daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said.

In a Feb. 16 interview with FOX News' Greta Van Susteren, Palin said that while teens should wait to have sex, advocating abstinence is unrealistic.

"I think abstinence is ... I don't know how to put it ... everyone should be abstinent or whatever, but it's not realistic at all," Palin said at the time.

Levi Johnston, Palin's former fiance and the father of her baby, Tripp, echoed that earlier view, saying Wednesday that abstinence is "not realistic" for young people. He said sexually active teens need to learn about contraception as well.

"Abstinence is a great idea," Johnston told "CBS This Morning" in an interview. "But I also think you need to enforce, you know, condoms and birth control and other things like that to have safe sex. I don't just think telling young kids, 'You can't have sex,' it's not going to work."

Sounds awfully familiar to what Robert Downey Jr said about drugs.

Hm.. who cares...

Look at it like this....

If she had never gotten pregnant and was living just as her mother preached; then everyone would say;

"she's just a rich conservative's daughter, she doesn't know what the REAL life experience is"

Now that she's actually pregnant, people are instead saying;

"but she got pregnant too, so who's she pointing fingures at"

This is why I hate politics.

P.S. isn't it usually the convicted drug addicts that visited my prep school to tell us young men not to get into drugs ????
Yes, I think it was.

Mommy dearest probably had a hand in the sudden reversal. Seriously, those two are a joke.

I feel sorry for the baby's father, having to put up with them to see his kid.

Having a wailing, needy baby is enough to ruin anyones sex drive.

Maybe Bristol will have to toe the line if her mother is going to have any chance of moving up the political ladder. Bristol may even end up working for her mother, if she isn't doing so already.

I fail to see how these statements are contradictory. The first is true. There is no other method of birth control that 100% of the time will prevent pregnancy, even when used properly. The second is an opinion stating that this method is unrealistic.

So together, the statements read: "Abstinence works in preventing teenage pregnancy, however it is not realistic to expect (all?) teens to practice abstinence."

Have a nice day,

Abstinence, while effective, is also unrealistic in a lot of cases.

That's exactly what she was saying. Where's the contradiction?

Well, I will be honest. I kind of threw my two cents in without reading the article... You are right.

Really, I couldnt care less what Bristol Palin has to say about anything. Or her mama.

Maybe she's getting ready to run for mayor in a dinky Alaskan town. In politics it's vital that you know how to flip flop and she's getting practice with that young.

Maybe they should put one of those in every motel room -- especially the ones that rent by the hour. Now that's 100% effective birth control!

They should put a baby monitor in there with the crying baby at 12am, 1:21am, 2:06am....you know, nice and unexpected.

I saw on one of those cable spoof shows about a doll that did everything - Baby Puke and Poop.

Birth Control is more safe than abstinence.

No, the article says Bristol made a statement in February, then flip-flopped on it in May, while it was Levi who made the apparently recent statement at the end of the article that aligns with what Bristol said in February. It's not written very well.

I'm not sure why she'd make a statement like this, I guess it's probably just too many angry TV watchers and awkward interview questions. This is America, if you don't militantly demand 100% abstinence for all unmarried people, then you obviously must support all 16-year-olds having casual sex and getting STDs and abortions.

How so? It's a drug that messes with body chemistry ("tricking" pregnancy), or materials not really intended for that kind of stuff, or "implanted rods" or patches that mess with the body.

Abstinence completely takes those things out of the picture.

Yeah, I ignored the biased editorializing and paid attention to what Bristol Palin was actually saying. That's how I drew my conclusions.

Not really. She's a grown woman. She can quit sucking money out of her mama's tit and go her own way, any time she's ready.
Of course, that might mean having to actually work for a living.
