re: doubts about neurontin (gabapentin)
It's more of a mood stabilizer than an anxyolitic, although it doesn't really serve much purpose as a mood-stabilizer (unless combined with another mood stabilizer and/or AD). It CAN be helpful with anxiety, irritability, and/or sleep. Couple things to keep in mind (I didn't read the WIKI article, so sorry if I'm repeating things):
Make sure your kidneys are in good shape before starting the med. It's not contraindicated in patients with renal problems, but a lower dose should be administered because that is where it's excreted. Starting dose = 300mg/day. Ultimate doses = 900-1800mg/day (in divided doses). Some have gone up to 3600mg/day. However, given it's short half-life, you don't wanna go over 12 hours to take your next dose. Side effects? somnolence, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. Weight gain is an occasional side-effect, too.
