I've been complaining about education's ****ed-up priorities for like 30+ years now. With the exception of reading, writing, and basic math, all the stuff I really needed to know they didn't teach in school. Money management (incl mortgages, taxes, loans, insurance, employment benefits, job hunting), first aid, self-defense, mental health (self-esteem, stress management, CBT), critical reasoning (questioning claims eg. in media based on motivation, quality of evidence, etc.), law (who to turn to for help, dealing with police, lawyers, contracts, etc.), "home ec" (maintenance, repairs), etc. I'm sure I've forgotten things.
I came out of school not knowing the first thing about how to live in the real world. I presume the govt expects parents to impart all this knowledge to their kids, or for the kids to find the motivation to learn it themselves outside of school, but how many 14-year-olds are gung-ho to learn about mortgages? I've been ****ed over in basically every single one of the above categories at some point in my life simply because I'm an ignorant SOB who didn't even know what they needed to know. My parents taught me basically zero percent of this stuff.
I love Society. It is entirely composed now of beautiful idiots and brilliant lunatics. Just what Society should be.
