Hi everyone. I'm Carrie, and I'm here to ask a favour.
As a sufferer of social anxiety for 27 years, I work on ways to improve my everyday life despite it. During COVID, me and my husband began developing a virtual reality training program. It's a place where I can practice my social skills and learn to manage the symptoms without fear of being ridiculed.
With adjustable intensity, I can control all sorts of things: the number of people in the scene, the intensity of the eye contact, level of engagement, and even make people friendlier, or grumpier.
It's not just about exposure, we included training so I could learn small talk, negotiation strategies, conflict management, assertiveness, and more.
Our tool intends to bridge the gap between isolation and real-world exposure, and provide a better-than-the-real-world space.
My husband and I wonder if there's community demand for a tool like this.
I've put a link to my short survey below (I hope that's not against any rules). I'd be so grateful to anyone who can spare just a few seconds to complete it.
Thank you to you all, and stay safe during Covid.
