Social anxiety of covert narcissism ?

Social phobia seems a lot similar to the shy narcissistic personality disorder:

"You might be surprised to find that you score relatively high on the NPI's narcissistic scale, which doesn't necessarily mean you're in denial (others in your life can tell you whether you are), but that you might not have the overt narcissistic characteristics we've been discussing."

I think maybe shy narcissists will exhibit social anxiety.

Or it's just another case of psychology naming the exact same symptoms but giving it a different name.

Excellent articles... I think there is still a lot of important information here. And to be honest much of this defines me very well. The awareness of these patterns puts a lot of the puzzle pieces together as to why I feel so intensely shy and anxious and angry in social situations. Or why I tend to seek relationships with girls that are (in my mind) somehow inferior to me, or make "friends" the much the same way. Jeez... it's like being a vampire.

But my question is: What can we do with this information? What can a person do to heal, if the very problem is intrinsically that person's own demeanour? And in some ways, couldn't therapy itself just feed into the narcissist's hungry consumption of attention?

What are people's experiences with overcoming covert narcissism?
