Saw women unknowingly drop her phone, I did nothing

Yesterday I got a crowded bus and sat down. A woman then boarded and as she went to sit down 4 rows in front of me she dropped what looked like her cellphone without knowing. Nobody else seemed to notice except for me, but I was so scared with fear in that moment to speak up in front of everybody, that I ended up doing nothing. I feel rather guilty about it now after the fact.

I remember a similar incident happening to me a long time ago. I was walking down the sidewalk and there were 2 girls walking in front of me. A pair of shoes fell out of one of their backpacks. I just couldn't bring myself to speak up. One of them just happened to look back and noticed the dropped shoes. She then says to her friend "and he didn't even say anything!"

Don't beat yourself up with guilt over it, I've had a couple moments like that too.

It's good to try and overcome your anxiety in those sorts of moments just to help other people out even it puts you in an awkward situation though.

A similar thing happened to me. A few weeks ago I saw a woman stumble after she got out of a car. The car had driven away. She fell flat on her face and I was too nervous to help her. Another person came by and they must have noticed that I did nothing to help.

Oh well...It's not your fault/duty to be fair. It sucks to be her. But. She should be more careful of her belongings. Don't beat yourself up too much.

If someone drops their phone or something else, you could pick it up and hand it to them without saying anything, and Iíve done that with a phone and a hat.

When I hear of people who help others when something happens to them in the news, it makes me hope I would be able to help somehow if I saw anything happen, but I know I probably wouldnít be able to, which I feel bad about.

my sa use to be to that extent where I would be too anxious to hand something back thatís been dropped. Personally, I cannot stand to see people lose their stuff bc I know how it drives me nuts to not be able to find something I lost. It far outweighs to overcome the anxiety and help someone when losing something like a phone could impact them a lot and set them back. I would have lost quite a bit of things (scarfs mostly) were it not for other people to point out that itís been dropped. People are only going to be thankful to have their items returned to them.

Don't beat yourself up about it, you had your reasons as to why you didn't approach them/ pick up the phone. I wouldn't worry about it, I myself would've just handed the phone over to them and not say anything. Everyone is different.

At some point, you have to realise that some people can stay in your heart but not in your life ...

I agree that the OP shouldn't beat himself up over this, as his anxiety is not his fault, but I think you're being unfair to the woman. It's like saying to someone who trips up: "watch where you're going". Short of taping your phone to your wrist you can't guarantee you are never going to lose it.

I would've put my number in it before giving it to her, see what happens.
