How do i respond when people tell me you are shy?

i want talking with a group of colleagues then a guy came and said "He is so shy he only talks if you talk to him first and kept laughing at me" That's not true but at that moment i felt very uncomfortable, somehow i managed to change the subject, but im sick of hiding it, what should i do when this happens?
I know if i said yes im shy, probably is a bad idea, so what or how should i reply??

Even shy people can be sassy sometimes...

I just tell them I have social anxiety. You don't have to justify yourself.

That guy sounds like an a hole if he's putting you down like that. Just say "so what" like the poster above suggested and maybe tell him to get lost next time if he laughs at you. Or tell him to mind his own business.

Say yes, Its a side effect of being allergic to B.S, so please be gentle

And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death
Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow,
A poor player that strut's and fret's his hour upon the stage and is heard no more,
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

It sounds like he's insecure and only brought it up because he needs your approval in the form of you initiating conversation with him. I feel like that's usually the case when someone points out someones quietness. Which in all honesty is quite sad and more embarrassing for them than it is you. But they'd never realize people see this in them.

I'd just be like "OH HEY THERE (insert name), HOW ARE YOU TODAY?!" all sarcastic like.

What do you mean by sick of hiding it? Do you mean sick of holding off from speaking up for yourself?
