Do you drink by yourself at night to drown out the depression? If so, how much and how often?

Stopped after I had a crappy hang over. I know you know you should stop before you get dependent. You don't need it. Try sugar, it gets me pretty upbeat.

been doing it a lot more the past 2 weeks. been real buzzed/drunk consecutive nights. will have about 6 or so beers each night

I would never go out to a bar alone instead I drink at home.

I actually hate alcohol b/c it's taste, the hangovers, and some other side effects so only situations that cause extream axiety seem to be able to get me to drink to drown out both depression and anxiety. I have often thought about it though. I've tried a few other things while at home to try to get a temporary escape from the depression or anxiety but nothing has worked yet but I'm planning to try other things but now I'm a little scared after one attempt left me puking my guts out all night and made me feel like I was dying.

The last drink I had was by myself and at home about 2 years ago. Before that I never really drank alone because it felt weird to me.

i go through phases, some weeks i'll drink every night 4-10 drinks, whiskey. some weeks i'll only drink once or twice. if there's any social situation i definitely want to be liquored up, the more hammered the better.

I don't have the stamina to drink, i get sick very easily

I do once or twice a week. Some weeks it's every other night. And then I'll easily go months without touching alcohol when I'm alone.
If it's to drown out the depression, I certainly don't realize it. I think it's more or less because I feel lonely. When I'm truly depressed and I drink, it makes my anxiety and depression much worse, which makes total sense. Alcohol is a depressant.

i've drank a couple of beers, but not to that extent of loosing self control or anything like that. I rarely drink alone, and nowadays i have to be careful NOT to drink since im on meds.

drinking alone makes me feel more depressed. I rather do something else...i just dont see the point.
Though when i was in florida i did used to drink quite often...mostly because my manager gave me free beer :P

Yeh, I'm a recovering alcoholic now because of it I got to where I was drinking a couple pints of rum every day.

i drink alone, if i got alcohol to do it...i havent really gottin drunk alone in a while, but i do drink alone, i dont see the harm really, its just what i do.....but ide rather smoke weed, but i wouldnt say its for depression, i just like it....but maybe for my anxiety lmao.....what can i say....

I never get depressed when drinking.

It ususally happens to me on subsequent days, especially when I've had a night of heavy drinking.

Alcohol is considered a depressant overall but it raises dopamine and serotonin in the brain. I actually feel less depressed with alcohol in me. When I'm drinking is the only time I can possibly have fun or be happy anymore.

my overall mood doesn't really change when my body is flooded with alchohol, i just feel much less inhibited, like i can do something without overanalyzing it beforehand.

If I wasn't too depressed to get a job, I probably would drink by myself.

i definately drink by myself but only because it helps the crazy boredom of, ya know..bein alone! but i stop after a little buzz because if i don't i'll just end up depressed that i really have no one to call to drink with me!

Alcohol is definitely a double-edged sword for me. I love that temporary state of euphoria and lowered inhibitions. Momentarily, I forget my anxiety. Then, the next day I have a hangover (usually) and feel more depressed and unmotivated.

I don't drink to drunkenness anymore. I drank very dangerously in college at times (not in frequency, but in amount).

I can't imagine getting "drunk" like that though these days. The last time I got drunk was during New Years Eve (originally I didn't plan on drinking much, but I was with a bunch of people at a club and drinks were just EVERYWHERE whether you paid for them or not). Aside from that, it's been multiple years since I was drunk.

So to answer the question, I drink alone more often than not, but I only drink a few times a month, and it's literally only one drink 90% of the time. That way I feel just mildly relaxed without the HORRIBLE side effects that come from excessive drinking.
