conversing with social experts

At some time I will need to start up and conversation with someone who has a great deal more conversational experience.
Can anyone suggest any "second level" questions that might engage those that seem unreachable?

When asking questions, aim for Open-Ended questions. Closed questions can simply be answered to with "Yes/No".

- Ask, What was it like?

- How was that experience for you?

- What happened...? please tell me everything...

- How do you feel about that?

- Hmmm... interesting... How did you get to this view/opinion of yours?

Closed questions are like:

- Did you like it? (yes/no)

- Was it fun? (yes/no)

- How many people were there? (2,10, 20...)

Hope this helps a bit!
