im new with a question..

Hello all!

Well first I would like to say I am so glad I found this forum. I never thought I would actually join, but after reading through most of the posts I figured it might be a good thing since all of you are so informative.

I was diagnosed with SA/bipolar/bpd 12 years ago. I am now 25 years of age and have not been on medicine or been to the Drs for about 5 years now.

I feel my life is spinning out of control, and I do not know how to fix the problem at this point. I know going to the doctors will help..but how do you make that first step and call if your scared to make phone calls. How do you actually get yourself to the doctors if your scared to go outside? I am sure most of you have been to this point.. I am hoping someone can guide me to make the right choices.

Thank you for your time!

Hi vulnerable . I know how scary it can be to make that 1st step but you have to believe that it is a step that could change your life for you in a dramatic way. We are all alot stronger than we give ourselves credit for most of the time. Good luck

Hi vulnerable! Welcome to S.A.S. A lot of us here have extreme problems going to the doctor, dentist, getting a haircut etc...All three of which I have been avoiding myself too...But severe tooth aches can be very motivational...Read some of the messages on the board such as in the Coping with Social Anxiety forum...Know that you are not alone, and that many people share your problems..Set small, incremental goals to achieve....And keep the faith! My Mood: Angelic

Since you're in South New Jersey, and it's getting colder, you will at least be bundled up to where people won't see as much of you.

It comes down to "is the risk of perceived embarrassment worth going to the doctor for?" I'd be willing to be laughed at walking to my car (which is 100% likely not to happen unless you were wearing some outrageous costume) in order to get to the doctor. Once in the office, the receptionist, guaranteed, won't laugh - they want you to feel as comfortable as possible .

Just remember this when you go to the doctor. You have nothing to be ashamed of; you haven't done anything wrong .

Welcome to SAS!

Write down what your going to say before you call. As for leaving the house, that is something you just have to endure.

I know it's hard

The first step seems to always be the hardest but you HAVE to do it. Sometimes I put myself on the spot so I can work on not being so self conscious and it helps the more you do it. It's work but you can't just give up or you will never get better. Think of how much your life can change by taking that first step... you have too much to gain to not force yourself no matter how horrible it feels at first. People don't pay as much attention as you think... they are often preoccupied with their own problems... you can do it
