Y a-t-il des francophones ici?

Salut!

Bonjour, Slim Shady!

I love the French language and studied it for two years in high school. (Loooong time ago; I'm 70 years old). I have not been exposed to it all these years so it surprised me that I was able to loosely translate your message. How close am I? I didn't even use Babelfish or the Translation Plus software on my computer.

Translation:
Hello,
I wondered how many French speakers are here at SAS?

Myself, I took classes in the French language for two years. But it was a long time since I had my last class and xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Say hello if you speak French. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

And pardon my pathetic French. I know that I am ???!

<end translation>

Right now, having retired to the Republic of Panama, my language endeavors are learning Español. It was easier learning in high school than it is now!

A bientot!

My laptop can't do accents and I'm too lazy to copy paste them all from other posts. You know what I mean.

Bonjour, Ms Deer!
It's nice to finally "meet you". I've read some posts by/ about you and you are quite the star on SAS.
Regarding your translation, like I said before, I myself am no expert so what I wrote is hardly perfect french, but, your translation pretty much says what I was actually thinking at the time.

Hello, Slim Shady, it is nice to meet you too!

As for being "the star" on SAS....well, I don't know about that. But I do enjoy coming here and reading and putting in my 2¢. That is, when I have 2¢. I think that sometimes my input is only worth about a penny.

Have a good day.

Re: Y a-t-il des francophones ici?

i typed up this long response in french but my grammar was so bad that i deleted it..

its kind of pathetic though since i was in french immersion from junior kindergarten to grade 12.. yet my french is terrible. i dropped out the year i was taking grade 12 french so i never even recieved my bilingual certificate.

anyway i went to montreal recently.. at first i was very nervous about using my french and avoided it, but i ended up trying and really enjoyed trying to speak french. mind you i did suck at it. i would get stuck and have to substitute certain words in english, and then whomever i was speaking to would then start talking to me in english instead of french..

Wouldn't have mattered much, after all, there's nothing to fear right?
