Saw SAS in a movie!?!?

So I was watching "The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom" @ http://joox.net and It's a BBC documentary series by the same guy that made The Century of the Self and The Power of Nightmares. Same topics and such but during the middle episode when they are discussing the anxiety disorder epidemic of the early 90's they showed some guy on social anxiety support, you can see a link to the forums and every thing... What’s the deal, I didn't think this place was open then? are these sites related?

P.S. it's a good show you'll should watch it!

either it was a different place or the documentary is unreliable. we're pretty sure sas wasn't here until late 1990s, if not the 21st century. in 2003 sas didn't even look like this - it was still an ezboard.

SAS was founded in '99 (back on Ezboard). I haven't watched the whole thing yet (there's 3 parts to it) so I can't tell what R is talking about just yet.

It's possible that it was filmed later than the early 90's since the SAS site is pretty distinct

Yeah, I remember the documentary that aired on PBS with Chris A. in it. I think it was called 'Afraid Of People'. I think Freedom From Fear had something to do with it, either sponsoring it or something like that because, for a time, you could order the video on their site. I'm sure that if he was part of any other documentaries, that we would have heard something about it.

Okay, I finally saw what R was talking about. That's the old SAS home page that Chris Antioch had up. This was obviously filmed after 1999 because I see that there's a link to the forums in the header.

Sorry for the fuzziness of the pic. I did a screen capture from the video...

re: Saw SAS in a movie!?!?

I remember this. My first post on SAS was in 2001, I believe, when it was still an ezboard. I'm sure there are others who were on the boards then who are still here now but maybe they've just changed their usernames. For those of you who were here then, I used to be known as happyguy101. What a lame and crappy name!

As for sa and sas getting exposure, I don't like it. Whenever sa is mentioned in a public forum I sort of cringe because I think someone is going to say it doesn't exist or that it's just shyness.

Hyperbole is the best thing ever!!!

Yeah, I remember your original user name I don't think it was lame and crappy... you were trying to be positive. At least that's how I viewed it. I started out there as leppard1963.

I understand how you feel as far as people's reactions but... SA does exist whether people want to acknowledge it or not. For what it's worth, knowledge is power and the more people hear and learn about SA, the better off we all are.

I remember that page, but it was like an old wrapper for a new gift. It stayed around for a little while with this board!

Looks like it would've been sometime before November 2001... unfortunately archive.org doesn't have it before 2000. I guess the forums were fairly new in 2000 though since there were only 139 members.
