My dog is gone

My parents had the dog put to sleep today while I was at work. It's a little hard and odd because I wasn't expecting it. She had been sick and getting old so I knew the day would come, but I thought they were taking her to see if they could put her on medication, I wasn't expecting to not see her again. Maybe it's for the best it went that way, since I didn't have to know and she's not suffering. I've lost several pets over the years and it's always hard for awhile without them. I don't think there will be anymore pets though, for me. But I will really miss having her around. I guess it will be okay in time, it's just a fact of life.

I'm sorry. It's very hard to put a pet down. We had to do that with our boxer 3 years ago and I still miss her very much.

Sorry for your loss. Took me quite a while to get used to my dog not being around anymore. Never did get another dog but had several cats as pets since.

I don't know if this helps at all, but I too am sorry for your loss. Losing a dog is is hard, it is like losing a relative, you get used to their behaviorism, their dependence on you, and your dependence on them, there is a connection that is severed when they are gone, and it hurts a lot. I've felt the same way in the past, when losing a pet, the pain is enough to think it is not worth having such an amazing friend again knowing they will not be there for long. It just sucks dude, and I mean it when I say I'm sorry, because I know how it feels, I wish no one had to go through that sort of pain. It sucks that dogs don't live longer, if it were up to me, they would be by us to our dying day. I wish you well in the coming weeks.

Live and let live

Sorry to hear. Sucks they did it without telling you and when you're were gone. Mine is getting up there in age now too, although she's still pretty healthy.

The truth is strictly what the ones in power perceives it to be.

Enjoy any good things, even the little and menial ones, as you will never know what impending distresses could descend upon you in a moment.

Iím very sorry to hear that. Iím sure she had a very good, long life and knew that you loved her. Itís scary when pets get old or sick and you know you wonít have much more time with them, and then for a while after they go, itís hard to believe theyíre really gone. I still expect to see my dogs in another part of the house sometimes, and then I feel sad when I remember they wonít be there.

Sorry to hear that - it's a hard thing to deal with. I still miss our old labrador, he was lovely.

Sorry to hear. It's never an easy decision but the most humane if the pet is terminally ill and suffering. It's hard to think that even our furry companions will no longer be with us one day. Had to go through it twice, the most recent was in early April 2018.

Yes condolences, I've lost a few pets over the years, I've come to the conclusion it's better to try not to get too attached though that's difficult.

And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death
Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow,
A poor player that strut's and fret's his hour upon the stage and is heard no more,
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is so painful. I've loved all the cats I've shared my life with, but my Callie girl was extra special. I had to say goodbye to her two years ago and I still cry for her. I know how much it hurts.

I dont think it should stop people from getting more dogs though. There are thousands of dogs that need a good home. And you can provide them a lifetime of joy.

It has been seven years since mine died and I still miss her bad. Since she's been gone this is really the first years of my life before the early 80s when I didn't have a dog (and my two dogs were similar in breed/appearance and temperament). Sometimes during the quiet times, it's the worst because it feels like she should still be here sleeping on the couch.

But I think that people who do what has to be done before it gets really unpleasant and desperate might be better off in the long run because I waited too long and it was horrible and just hurts more when I think about it.
