Interesting names.

I'm not quite sure if this should go in the arts part of the forum or not but I think I'll stick with this. I'm currently writing a story and I'm having a hell of a hard time trying to think up names for my main female character.

I prefer names that aren't constantly used, like Karen, Ashley, Brittany. Although those are nice names, it's not really what I'm going for here. But nothing so over the top like Lightening or Precious.

I already have a few names for me to chose from but it would be nice to have some other imput.

So far I have.

Corinne (my favorite name ever but i'm kind of getting tired of it since I use it in a lot of stories)
Lane (thank you Gilmore Girls haha)
River
Keilee (pro: Keel-lee *the keel being pronounced like heel or Neil obviously)
Quinn
Piper
Shay
Delia

So have any suggestions? I would love to see what you guys come up with! = )

Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.

Where does your character live or what is her heritage? For example, if your story is set in Louisiana a French name can be appropriate or if it's in Brooklyn, you might use an Italian one. Alternately, you can look up names by etymology/origin to find one that fits the character, although I'd avoid names that are so obvious that they sound cartoonish (Cruella DeVille? Maleficent?), which I like to call "Baron von Bad Guy Syndrome." If those two things don't matter so much, I usually just pull names at random, which can actually be a good way to write a character. Just put together a first name and a last name and think, "What would Thaddeus Chadsworth be like?"

"They had to laugh, otherwise it would be too terrifying." -Bukowski

I like a lot of French girls' names. Aurelie, Mignon, Elie, etc. I like Kalliyan, too. It's Cambodian. Adeline is a name I've started liking more recently, English. Dianthe, Greek.

My name's Josephine. I looked it up in a babies' names book and a nickname for someone with my name is Pip. Pippa. I quite like the name Clementine (I thought it was nice when I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). I used to like the name Jasmine (I was probably watching Aladdin around that time).

I adore the name Bettina. It's so feminine and sweet.
I like Allegra, though it is also a drug name and reminds me of Viagra, so maybe not the best to use.

Tempest, Willow, Kali, Shona (own name ), Anaiis, Shakti --seems to be mostly girls' names I like.
Boys names I like tend to be earthy--Forest, River, Stone.
It just occured to me I like those names, but some of them I would never name a child-interesting.

I am not my past. I am not my anxiety, nor depression. I am not my gender, or color, or social status, or occupation title, or any other label. I am not my story.
