Those standard video ASMR things usually trigger misophonia and intense rage in me...I have to avoid them. Especially the whispery ones. I want to punch the people in them. For that reason I'm not clicking any of the YouTube links in this thread. Some beer company used this technique in an ad a while back with this hot woman blowing on and running her finger around the lip of a bottle and whisper-whisper-whispering and...UGH GOD I wanted to deck her in the face.
And watching/listening to people eat grosses me out...I don't understand the appeal of that at all. To each their own, I guess.
Many of these seem like attractive users taking advantage of their looks for views, anyway. Notice most of the popular "ASMR" videos are hot young women doing various things while smiling at the camera? I doubt they're getting most of their hits from people experiencing actual ASMR...replace the hot young woman with an unattractive, older, overweight one (such as myself) doing the exact same things and see if she gets nearly as many hits.
Now that I probably pissed off some people... -_-
The only thing I've ever experienced that causes a distinct ASMR reaction in me is a cat purring directly in my ear...it makes my neck tingle. Always has, decades before the term "ASMR" was a thing. I figured that was just something weird I experienced alone. There are other noises and sensations I like but they don't make anything tingle like that, so I can't really consider them "true" ASMR. (Also, the effect seems to wear off after the first time and if a cat purrs in my ear twice, it doesn't happen the second time. Don't know why. It's very fleeting.)
I think "stimming" might be a better word for the feeling I get from some things...like running tickly blanket fibers between my fingers (I find this soothing), and watching people mix metallic paints, or glittery GIFs and such...they mesmerize me. It seems people mix these two concepts together or maybe I'm not understanding it all correctly.

Thank God I'm not the only one, at least. The whispering doesn't creep me out but...I can't describe how infuriated I get. I want to physically harm people. And I'm not typically a violent person, either. I honestly do not advocate punching people for whispering.
If I don't reply to you, it's NOTHING PERSONAL. It's my ANXIETY.
