The first infections have been confirmed in my country (Canada). Yikes. I live in a city with lower Chinese immigrant population but I would be avoiding places like Richmond, BC right now. Canadian screening practices at airports and borders are abhorrently poor.

I think I'll have a Corona.

And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death
Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow,
A poor player that strut's and fret's his hour upon the stage and is heard no more,
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Two to three week incubation period is scary. It's similar to the SARS outbreak of 2003.

It started at a seafood market.

it's a tragedy for those dead and rather scary for those stuck in wuhan. at least so far it doesn't appear to be an incredibly bad virus. seems like we'll all be affected soon as it spreads everywhere. theres no stopping it.

I kind of can't not hear about it. My mother is a huge germophobe and it's all she's been talking about. I understand why they cover stuff like this on the news but people like her don't need more diseases to be afraid of. She's irrational as it is and when she hears about this kind of stuff her phobia goes into overdrive. It's really annoying.

the BBC was reporting on the quarantined cities in China which i thought was interesting.

Also the people in Wuhan knew about the virus in December but it was only identified as a new virus in January, so people were already stocking up on masks and food because they thought it mightve been Sars coming back.

They are building an isolation hospital in 10 days (!) in Wuhan to cope with the numbers of ill people.

Just some things that stood out to me

I can't hear that name any longer. We have been assaulted by clients asking for face masks all day long. They are all sold out. Impossible to order any for the time being. My guess is that the media are making a mountain out of a molehill to hide other ongoing things.

I was thinking about the possible war with Iran and the political mess in most European countries. Brexit in a few days, nearly daily strikes in France against Macron's infamous "réforme des retraites" etc.

I've spent entirely too much time worrying myself over it by reading articles and watching videos. I'm reminded why I have more or less blacklisted the news.

I was pretty concerned when I found out the corona virus had come to Toronto. I always thought I'd die of Lyme disease from a tick, but it turns out I'm going to die of corona virus instead. Well, I've had a good run.

But after doing some digging, which wasn't easy because of all the alarmist headlines, it looks like it's not really THAT bad. From the descriptions, it seems like maybe a slightly worse (or not) version of the flu. And they've apparently isolated the guy who brought it here and his wife, so it doesn't look like the military will have to quarantine the city like in 28 Days Later.

This is just like that swine flu panic from 2009. There was all this scary news coverage about it, making me think it was the next ebola. Then I happened to start getting the flu, so I actually went to the clinic to get it seen because I thought they were quarantining people who had swine flu. That was a waste, because it turns out swine flu also wasn't that bad and you deal with it the same as the normal flu. (I don't know if I had swine flu or the normal flu, but either way, it's not a big deal.)

I was going to say people everywhere are demanding face masks (and they're selling out everywhere,) so cynically now would be a good time to try selling some.

Lucy's bitten
Neck is bleeding bad
The teeth have long departed
Yet the desire burns strong
On in desire for destruction
One on which she'll depend
One that ceases to deepen
Too near bitter end

She turns her loosening ring
Guardian angel sings
"I think you've lost your wings, but you're still yours
You're still yours, you're still yours"

Iran isn't going to do much. The EU (what's left of it) can still step in. Iran really doesn't have that much going for it, especially after Iraq. They kinda revealed how bad things really are out there.

Brexit will be fine.

France's own people are going after Macron. Some people over there need to wake up.
