Are there any films about SA?
I was wondering the other day if there are any movies based around a character that has S.A? That I could possibly watch with my dad to help him understand it's more than SHYNESS?
Any help would be great!

I heard the movie Wendy and Lucy that just came out on DVD was about a super shy girl who loses her dog in a new town and has to try to get the help of people in the town to find it despite her shyness. I haven't seen it though.

I recommend the movie "In The Wild." It's easily the most thought provoking movie I ever seen and it's based on a true story about the guy who simply was sick of living in society and cut ties with it. It's not exactly about SA, but I suspected the character to have it. Regardless it's a well-done, bittersweet movie.

True, though things don't end up well for them. I can't think of a movie where social anxiety isn't portrayed negatively...

They are from the movies May, Willard, and Carrie respectively, I believe. They're eponymously titled.

May had an extra extreme case of SA and went a little insane(something I'm hoping does not happen to people with SA too often), but technically she did get a friend at the end.
Carrie is a sad movie and she goes a little insane, too.
Willard, also.

LARS AND THE REAL GIRL is a good movie, but you have to be patient. It's slow-going...just as ScaredToLive describes.

Ahh! One of the best movies ever! And it turns out well for her, which gives you hope! And I also love "Lars and the Real Girl." Great stuff.
I realized a capacity for not feeling lonely carried a very real price, which was the threat of feeling nothing at all.

Carrie, May, and Willard definitely wouldn't be good movies to teach your dad about SA. 
I might check out May. It sounds like an interesting movie.
I can't think of any movies, at the moment, but Welcome to the NHK is a good anime. The main character is afraid to leave his house. He does a lot of stupid things but the show is basically sympathetic towards him.
On the show Monk the main character is very socially awkward. He refused to leave his house, for years, before the events of the show. His brother doesn't leave his house. Wikipedia says the brother has agoraphobia. Monk is a funny show, but I don't like the newer episodes as much.

Acutally, I did too. For me, the ending made me feel like I'm alone in that my life will stay this way.
