Mother Teresa 'Saint Of The Media', Controversial Study Says

Quote:
LONDON: A study conducted by Canadian researchers has called Mother Teresa "anything but a saint", a creation of an orchestrated and effective media campaign who was generous with her prayers but miserly with her foundation's millions when it came to humanity's suffering.

The controversial study, to be published this month in the journal of studies in religion/sciences called Religieuses, says that Teresa — known across the world as the apostle of the dying and the downtrodden — actually felt it was beautiful to see the poor suffer.

According to the study, the Vatican overlooked the crucial human side of Teresa — her dubious way of caring for the sick by glorifying their suffering instead of relieving it.

Known this for a long time. I look forward to the study's release

Here's a good summary of the real Mother Teresa:

Quote:
Everybody remembers Mother Teresa as a living saint. Mother T was a Catholic nun who helped the destitute and homeless of Calcutta, and who became an international emissary of peace and charity after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

But nobody seems to remember the crazy things M.T. said about abortion, contraception, and divorce. Or her endless self-aggrandizing through exaggeration and lies. Or the various brutal dictators and other sleazeballs she hung out with. Or especially what happened to all those financial donations (hundreds of millions of dollars) which never seemed to get spent on anything. At least they weren't spent on food, medicine, or housing for the poor.

Dark stuff. Interesting though.

So my dad is right. He doesn't like her and says she used to give money to people in exchange for them converting to christianity. And if they didn't, they wouldn't get help. I never took him seriously before.

Yes, I believe she loved suffering much more than people.

Very interesting, you could possibly add Eva Perón to that list.

Some say she was just a propaganda tool, by no means made it her life's aim to help the poor, just happened to marry a president who cleverly used her for his own political interests. Apparently it was he who even pressurised her not to run for presidency. he had no interest in her political abilities (if you want to call it that), rather just let her stand there and look pretty to put it simply. This was solidified by her "convenient" death...(but her death is not debated as suspicious).

^ I'm not too sure on this though. Or rather I don't want to believe it.

Sure, but Evita at least had charisma and style. Mother Teresa was just a fugly little troll with a suffering fetish.

This has been known for a long time it's an "open secret" for those who are interested enough to go look it up.

Some of 'her' quotes on that site actually belong to other people - I only had a quick look but some of them are very familiar from other sources including at least one by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Was Mother Teresa claiming these sayings as all her own?

I haven't read Hitchens's book about her yet, but my impression of her has always been of someone who was well-meaning/well-intentioned but misguided (and perhaps a bit mentally unwell) and used as a propaganda tool by the right wing hierarchy of the church.

I lived in India when she was alive and I know people who have dealt with her directly. The impression I got is also of a person who helped the poor but did not try to get them out of poverty and suffering.

Either due to sadism or plain stupid beliefs.
