hypnosis? I'll give it a try..

Any1 tried it for shyness? Well, I recently got a relaxation workbook from the library that has a section on self-hypnosis, and today i used part of the script in the book and part of my own words (focusing on the shyness aspect) & recorded it onto a CD in my dads recording studio (he used to be a musician in a band but now he records other musicians and also is a videographer for weddings and stuff). Anyway i listened to it the first time today & i think it did help a little. I understand that you're not going to get immediate results & that it takes practice; and also the book said that hypnosis works better for some ppl than others. I don't think that hypnosis is a fraud--i think it's just a form of guided imagery, and also the more relaxed and the more you BELIEVE that it will work, the more it will work for u. I also ordered another hypnosis book called How to Hypnotize Yourself with Your Eyes Open, i'm going to try that also. Well I'll let everyone know soon if the hypnosis stuff is truly worth it or not xx

Hey porcelainfaery,

I noticed this thread was from a while ago, did you give it a go and if so did it help out? I'm very interested in hypnosis. I read this on a site about hypnosis: Hypnotherapy has been a great help in improving: Exam performance, Study Recall, Memory, Sports Focus, Public Speaking, Personal Growth, Pain Control, Performace, Assertiveness, Childbirth, Communication, Relaxation, Counselling, Confidence, Releasing the Past, Personal Power, Goal Setting.

Sounds very promising!! It probabaly costs a fortune but I'd be willing to give a few sessions a go!

Yeah, it was for me too. I had four one-hour individual office sessions with a therapist who claimed to treat SA (among other things) using hypnosis. Each session was basically fifty-five minutes of talk therapy followed by five-minutes of the therapist having me look into a spinning black-and-white spiral wheel. The therapist told me that it was just supposed to induce a state of relaxation and that she couldn't make me do or say anything against my will, but I felt like I could have just got up and walked out of her office - and would have been better off doing so. So, I stopped going. Maybe, she just wasn't a good therapist/hypnotist, but I wasn't about to spend more money looking for a better one.

I enjoy listening to the self-confidence, self-esteem, being yourself socially, and social phobia transcripts.

I think hypnosis works to some level if you're persistent and patient and perhaps open-minded.

I dunno...perhaps it works better for some people than others. At the very least, it helps to relax and rejuvenate me. But sometimes I think that deep down inside important changes are slowly taking place to help me with my SA struggles.

I read this book last year. I thought there was just too much theory before I actually got to the actual self-hypnotizing. In any case the book didn't really help me. I hated the thought of having to read the same transcript over and over again myself. I'd rather listen over and over again to someone's soothing voice doing that.

But good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Peace to you,
Marcus

It was $70 for a session and it didn't work at all. In all fairness though, medications have, for the most part, been a waste of money for me too because they haven't worked either. I don't want to deter others from trying things though, there isn't one thing that works for everyone. SA doesn't have one clear, easy solution, everyone has to seek out the method that works best for them. For me, working with a therapist has been the most helpful.

I bought two CDS From a hyponsis website priced 12.99 each...i never get to the end of them coz i always fall asleep and cant remember what I was listening to...There is another site and you email him exactly how you are felling and he records a personalised cd that only relates to you and your anxiety. that costs 30.00 though.

I defintely think they are worth while
